• This examination will take place on 14 November 2023 from 10:00 to 13:00.
• Please note that the onus rests on you to ensure that your answer script uploaded onto Moodle
is the final and correct version. No amendments to submissions will be accepted after the
closing time.
• No late submissions will be accepted, and late submissions will be awarded a zero mark.
• The uploaded answer script must have a cover page (provided). Please ensure that the
module code, your registered name, identity number and student number appear on the cover
page.
• The answer script must have the signed honesty declaration form (provided). Please ensure
that you read, understand, and sign the form.
• Answer each section/question of the examination on a new page (indicating the
section/question and the module code on the page).
• The answer script must be in PDF format only and the following naming convention of the final
file must be used when submitting the document on Moodle: STUDENT NUMBER_MBA5909
• It is your responsibility to ensure that the submitted document is not password protected and
the file submitted is not corrupted. If the marker is unable to access or open the submission
document, you will be awarded a zero mark for the examination.

UBER SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA - CONTEXTUAL LEADERSHIP FOR SUSTAINABLE
BUSINESS MODEL INNOVATION DURING COVID-19

QUESTIONS:

After the multiple business model adaptations during the COVID-19 period, Alon Lits has
managed to convince the Chief Executive, Dara Khosrowshahi to adopt project management
to move Uber Sub-Saharan Africa into a contemporary Project - Oriented Organisation (POO),
enabling continued adaptation of the business model in the future, as a response to changing
customer needs.

In your capacity as a Strategic Project Management expert consultant, you have been formally
approached by the Chief Executive to work with Alon Lits to present a proposal at the next
EXCO meeting on the following:

1. As motivation describe how the influence of the Uber Sub-Saharan Africa senior
management enabled the ability to pivot the strategy during COVID-19. [20 Marks]

2. What type of organization structure should Uber Sub-Saharan Africa be, and why.

3. Which partnerships and alliances set up during COVID-19 should Uber Sub-Saharan
Africa adopt for its future business model. Explain why. [15 Marks]

5. What are 3 critical things that Uber Sub-Saharan Africa should do to become a

Instructions:
Please read the case study carefully and make sure that the above assignments are presented
with sufficient motivation on issues of why and how. The aim is to help the Uber global EXCO
to make an informed decision on the way forward.

Credit will be given for clear demonstration of good understanding of Strategic Project
Management fundamentals. Unsupported arguments should be avoided.
