“Kwentong Kanto”

Theme: Unseen , Unheard Stories: The Reality of the Poorest of the Poor.

Synopsis:

Sometimes we cursed to death those “Tambay sa kanto” because of seeing them how
unmotivated to live, but the question is do we know what is the reason they became like that? If
they have given a chance to speak their life, would you rather sit and listen to them? Or just
ignore them as the usual?

This play will not be only highlighting the struggle of each tambays but will uncover how they
end up and lost a will to live.

Characters:

Juanito Pasilaban as Mang Berto.

- Manong berto was a former Jeepney driver who stopped driving and ending up as
“Sugarol sa Kanto”after failing to buy a modern jeepney.

Liera Remo as Inday

- Inday was a battered wife, after her husband left her for another woman her world
shattered as she was left with 4 kids, she tried to be a good mother but end up being a
“Sugarol sa Kanto”.

Willy Alvarado as Berting

- Berting was an academic achiever who end up taking drugs due to peer pressure of his
friends to try resulting to be a “Tambay sa Kanto”

Shafica Aserol as Nene

- A loving mother who end up witnessing his own son’s death due to accusing he was a
drug seller. She tried to report it to the Police station but the police men just laugh and
shrugged it off after that she went crazy end up being called a “Baliw sa kanto”.

May De Guzman as Silya

- Silya was a Sari-sari store owner living a simple life together with his journalist husband
not until his husband was shot to death because he discovered a secret about a well-
known politician. She tried to seek justice but she was shut by the politician who shot his
husband. Months passed she was called a “Tindera sa kanto”
Mark Angelo Torno as Totoy

- Totoy was a well known “Palaboy sa kanto” but not everyone know his story. How he
end up being a beggar.

Setting: The story was set in a front of Sari-sari store, it has 5 chairs and one table.
