I&S CULTURE QUESTIONS

What is culture?

Culture is shared beliefs, customs and arts that is passed down from generation to generation.

Different communities have different beliefs, which means that they have slightly(or very differ-

ent cultures. Culture is differentiated by different languages, customs, traditions, and the different

symbols. For example, the Chinese culture is different from other cultures because they speak

Chinese, like the colour red(ChatGPT)

How can culture be expressed?

Culture can be expressed in multiple ways. First, the most obvious way is probably the lan-

guage that a specific culture uses. Languages are all different and unique, which is what also

makes cultures special. Also, art is a big part. Cultures use art to express/communicate their cre-

ativity and emotions. The other thing is religion. Your religion tells others your culture.(ChatG-

What is multiculturalism?

Multiculturalism is when different cultures live and coexist together. They respect and can

talk together about their culture differences peacefully in one community(What is)

How do different organizations create their own culture?

There are multiple things that can lead a organization to create their own culture. Here are

some examples of how they do it. First, leadership is important. In order for a organization to

actually create their own culture, they need a leader to make sure that everyone follows the rules,

no fighting, what they’re going to do, etc. An organization can also create symbols/traditions and

specific behaviours to make a unique culture that is different form others(ChatGPT)

How does culture depend of time, place, and space?

Well, before, because technology wasn’t advanced and we didn’t really know anything by

then, beliefs were different too. As time goes on, different cultures will evolve and develop.

Place can also affect culture. People who live in a harsh environment will tend to be more threat-

ening while people who live in a rich/easy place will probably think of nature as a benefit(How

Different). Also, the environment affects what clothes people wear, which also contributes to cul-

ture(The Uniqueness). And if there isn’t a lot of space in the environment, then the culture will

also be affected by that.

How can conflict affect culture?

Conflict can affect culture by making people miscommunicate and misunderstand. This may

seem like a small thing, but in terms of culture, it is important for people to be able to communi-

cate easily and quickly to pass on the traditions and cultures. Culture is also based on different

ideas. So if conflict happens, and people can’t communicate properly, then different and unique

ideas won’t be passed on. Culture is also passed on from generation to generation. To pass on

special traditions, the elders/older people will tell stories to the younger children. Then, when

those children are adults/elders, they will pass the story down to their grandchildren/kids. Con-

flict can also make people forget/lose their identity(ChatGPT). For example, let’s say two coun-

tries(Country A and Country B) are at war. Country A has a lot of culture/traditions and Country

B bombs them. Then, because the people in Country A are busy running away/seeking shelter,

they won’t have time to educate their children on culture or do specific traditions.
