1. Conventions on science fiction in this extract was displayed in the last paragraph were Captain
Nemo is speaking about electricity furnishing him air to breathe which is impossible and so
called science fiction.
2. There are two examples of semantic fields I got in the extract. First, it was in 3 rd paragraph
where they both are discussing about electricity and then its uses and so on. The second one
was in the 7th paragraph where they talk about the items present in water and more. Using this
type of language helps the reader to understand the concept better.
3. The way the author has described the usage and advantages on electricity, it gives readers a
clear image of the present situation in 1900s.
4. The effect could have been the comparison between the electricity now and then and compare
how has it developed and how has it benefited the whole world.
5. Personification, Simile and Metaphors are the literary devices used in this extract.
