Language definition
Listening definition
Listening is the ability to accurately receive and interpret messages in the communication process. Listening
is key to all effective communication. Without the ability to listen effectively, messages are easily
misunderstood.

Speaking
Speaking is an interactive process of constructing meaning that involves producing and receiving and
processing information. Its form and meaning are dependent on the context in which it occurs, including the
participants themselves, their collective experiences, the physical environment, and the purposes for
speaking. It is often spontaneous, open-ended, and evolving. However, speech is not always unpredictable.
Language functions (or patterns) that tend to recur in certain discourse situations (e.g., declining an
invitation or requesting time off from work), can be identified and charted.

Reading
Reading is the process of looking at a series of written symbols and getting meaning from them. this is a
receptive skill - through it we receive information. But the complex process of reading also requires the skill
of speaking, so that we can pronounce the words that we read. In this sense, reading is also a productive skill
in that we are both receiving information and transmitting it.
Writing
the process of using symbols (letters of the alphabet, punctuation and spaces) to communicate thoughts and
ideas in a readable form. writing is a form of communication that allows students to put their feelings and
ideas on paper, to organize their knowledge and beliefs into convincing arguments, and to convey meaning
through well-constructed text. In its most advanced form, written expression can be as vivid as a work of art.
Spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and organization come together and grow together to help the student
demonstrate more advanced writing skills each year.
