II. Essay

Based on what I’ve learned, Simple stress is defined as the ratio of applied force divided by resisting
area, an internal resistance of a material to the distorting effects of external forces. it is the
expression of force per unit area to structural components subjected to external and/or induced
forces. There are 3 types of stresses which is the Normal stress, Shear Stress, and Bearing Stress.
Normal stress occurs when a force is applied perpendicular to the material's cross-sectional area. It is
the stress caused by axial force which is the compressive stress and axial force, it acts normal/
perpendicular to the resisting surface and results in volume change. Tensile stress is the stress
induced in a body when subjected to two equal and opposite pulls. Tensile stress acts normal to the
area and it pulls on the area. The ratio of decrease of the length of the body to the original volume is
known as compressive strain. he ratio of change in the volume body of the original volume is known
as volumetric strain. Shear stress occurs when the applied force is parallel to the resisting region.
While The contact pressure between two bodies is referred to as bearing stress.
