Sheet-4

1. A The radius of our Sun is 6.96 × 108 m, and its total power output
is 3.85 × 1026 W. (a) Assuming the Sun’s surface emits as a black
body, calculate its surface temperature. (b) Using the result of part
(a), find λmax for the Sun.

2. Consider a black body of surface area 20.0 cm2 and temperature

5000 K. How much power does it radiate? at what wavelength does
it radiate most intensely?

3. The wavelength of maximum energy released during an atomic

explosion was 2.93 × 10-10 m. Given that Wien's constant is
2.898×10-3 m.K, Find the maximum temperature attained.

4. A spherical blackbody of 5 cm radius is maintained at a

temperature of 327°C. What is the power radiated? and at what
wavelength is the maximum energy radiated.

5. In a thermonuclear explosion the temperature in the fireball is

momentarily 107 K. Find the wavelength at which the radiation
emitted is maximum
