Hadith 1: Learning from our mistakes

“A believer is not stung from the same hole
twice.”

Lessons:

• Life is a test. We make many mistakes knowingly and

unknowingly.

• As Muslims, we should learn from our mistakes. We may

be forgiven the first time, but if we commit the same
mistake twice, we only have ourselves to blame.

• Once we realise we’ve done something wrong, we

should try our best to abstain from it.

• A true believer always strives to make himself a better

person by learning from his previous errors.
Hadith 2: Knowledge

“Whoever Allah Ta’ala wishes good for, He
bestows upon them knowledge of the
religion.”

Lessons:

• Allah Ta’ala favours people in different ways. One of His

greatest favours upon mankind is knowledge.

• Allah Ta’ala does not bestow the knowledge and

understanding of His religion except to the people He
desires goodness for.

• Seeking knowledge is a great form of worshipping Allah

Ta’ala and drawing closer to Him.

• Knowledge will only be beneficial if it is sought with a

sincere intention and then acted upon.
Hadith 3: Trustworthiness

“One who cannot be trusted has no faith,
and one who cannot keep a promise has no
religion.”

Lessons:

• Trustworthiness is the hallmark of a believer. A true

Muslim always keeps his promise.

• One of the major signs of hypocrisy is breaking promises

and not being trustworthy.

• Allah Ta’ala commanded us to fulfil any promises we

make so long as it does not involve anything forbidden.

• The more trustworthy a person is, the stronger their

Iman is.
Hadith 4: Loving the Prophet

“None of you have truly believed until I am
dearer to him than his parents, children
and the whole of mankind.”
Lessons:

• As believers, we should always seek to strengthen our

faith.

• One of the most important aspects of our faith is to love

• Our Iman will not be complete until we love the Prophet

(‫ )صلى هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬more than any other person.

• To truly love the Prophet (‫)صلى هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬, we should
follow his footsteps in every aspect of our lives.
Hadith 5: Fathers

“The pleasure of Allah is in the pleasure of
the father, and the anger of Allah lies in the
anger of the father.”
Lessons:

• After Allah Ta’ala and His Prophet (‫)صلى هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬, our
parents are most deserving of our love, respect and
obedience.

• Allah Ta’ala will not be pleased with us if our parents are

not pleased with us.

• We should never prefer our friends over our fathers.

• As Muslims, we must obey our parents in every matter

unless it involves doing something sinful.
Hadith 6: Allah Ta’ala is pure

َ
“Indeed Allah is pure, and He only accepts
what is pure.”

Lessons:

• Allah Ta’ala is pure and loves for His servants to be pure.

• As Muslims, we should ensure that our worship is purely

for Allah Ta’ala.

• Everything that Allah Ta’ala has made Halal is pure, and

everything that He made Haram is impure.

• As Muslims, we should live pure lives. Our food, drink,

clothing etc. should be Halal and bought with Halal
income.
Hadith 7: The true Muslim

“The true Muslim is the one who does not
harm other Muslims with his tongue or
hand.”

Lessons:

• A true Muslim is the one who does not verbally nor

physically harm others.

• Islam teaches us to respect other Muslims as we are all

brothers in faith.

• The Prophet (‫ )صلى هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬mentioned the tongue first
because hurting others with the tongue is easier, more
common and more painful.

• The Prophet (‫ )صلى هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬said that the sanctity of a
believer is greater than the holy Ka’bah.
Hadith 8: Equality

“None of you have truly believed until he
wants for his brother that which he wants
for himself.”

Lessons:

• Islam teaches us to be just and selfless. Part of our faith

is to treat fellow human beings as we would like to be
treated ourselves.

• Just as we would like others to behave well with us, we

should behave well with other people.

• We cannot expect people to treat us as we want unless

we are willing to do the same for them.

• If we expect others to respect our faith and traditions,

we must show respect to faiths and traditions different
to our own.
Hadith 9: Minding one’s own business

“From the beauty of a Muslim is that he
leaves that which does not concern him.”

Lessons:

• One of the most beautiful qualities of a Muslim is that

he doesn’t delve into the affairs of others which do not
concern him.

• A Muslim should always be preoccupied with that which

benefits him in this world and the hereafter.

• Many fights and arguments would be avoided if people

avoided matters that do not concern them.

• A Muslim should be tolerant towards others and respect

their choices, and not enforce his lifestyle unto them.
Hadith 10: Jealousy

َ

‫ب‬ َ
ُ ْ

“Jealousy eats up good deeds, just as fire

eats up wood.”

Lessons:

• Jealousy is one of the most detested characteristics a

person can possess.

• The first sin performed in the skies was jealousy, and the
first sin performed on Earth was jealousy.

• Jealousy causes people to commit many other sins.

• Ghibtah, which is permissible, is when a person desires

they had something another person possesses but they
do not desire for that person to lose it.
Hadith 11: Be beneficial

“The most beloved people to Allah are
those who are beneficial to others.”

Lessons:

• Islam is a merciful religion that teaches us to help

others.

• Allah Ta’ala promises to help those who help His

servants, both Muslim and non-Muslim.

• The more beneficial we are to other people, the dearer

we are to Allah Ta’ala.

• Muslims are encouraged to participate in democracy in

order to.
Hadith 12: Speak only good

“Whoever believes in Allah Ta’ala and the
last day should speak well or keep silent.”

Lessons:

• The tongue is one of the greatest blessings of Allah

Ta’ala.

• The tongue could be a means for us to enter Jannah, or

it could be the very reason we enter Jahannam.

• A true believer does not speak unnecessarily, and only

says good things.

• One who believes in Allah Ta’ala and the last day knows
that he will be taken into account for everything he says,
therefore he only speaks well or he remains silent.
Hadith 13: Backbiting

“Do not backbite other Muslims and do not
seek out their secrets.”

Lessons:

• One of the worst sins of the tongue is to backbite.

• By backbiting another person, we pass on our good

deeds to them.

• As Muslims, we should not seek out or speak about the

secrets of others.

• Just as we wouldn’t like our own secrets to be exposed,

we should not attempt to expose the secrets of others.
Hadith 14: Friendship

“A person is on the religion of his
associates, so be careful who you associate
with.”
Lessons:

• As Muslims, we should be cautious about what kind of

company we keep.

• Keeping good company will have a positive effect on a

person and will help them to become good. Likewise,
associating with bad people has a negative effect on a
person, and causes them to become bad.

• One of the biggest regrets a person will have on the Day

of Judgement is the people they associated with.

• Our friends will become our enemies on the Day of

Judgement, unless they were righteous people.
Hadith 15: Kindness to neighbours

ِ ‫ج‬
َ ‫ى‬َ ‫ل‬ ‫إ‬
ِ ْ
‫ن‬ ‫س‬
ِ ‫ح‬
ْ َ ‫ أ‬.١٥
“Be good towards your neighbour, then
you will be true believer.”

Lessons:

• Muslims display kindness to everyone.

• One of the signs of a true believer is that they are kind

towards their neighbours.

• Our neighbours are the nearest people to us. If we can

behave well towards our neighbours, whether Muslim
or non-Muslim, this is a sign of true good character.

• Causing difficulties and hardships to neighbours is a sign

of weak faith.
Hadith 16: Imitating others

“Whoever imitates a group then he is from
them.”

Lessons:

• Islam is a complete code of life.

• Muslims are instructed to imitate the Prophet

Muhammad (‫ )صلى هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬in every aspect of our lives.

• As Muslims, we should not be ashamed of our identity.

• If we choose to imitate evil people instead of righteous

people, on the Day of Judgement we will be raised with
them.
Hadith 17: Helping others

َ ‫ي‬ ‫ف‬
ِ ُ ‫د‬‫ب‬ْ ْ
“Indeed Allah will help His servant so long
as the servant helps his brother.”

Lessons:

• Islam is a merciful religion that teaches us to help

others.

• Allah Ta’ala promises to help those who help His

servants.

• Just as we would help our siblings if they needed help,

we should try to help our Muslim brothers and sisters.

• We cannot expect to receive help from Allah Ta’ala if we

are not willing to help His servants.
Hadith 18: Insulting another Muslim

ٌ ‫س‬
"Insulting a Muslim is sinful, and fighting
him is disbelief."

Lessons:

• Islam teaches us to love one another as if we are one

family.

• All Muslims are united under the banner of Islam. We all

share the same beliefs and practices.

• If we fall into a dispute with a fellow Muslim, we should

try and resolve our differences without resorting to
swearing as this is the sign of a hypocrite.

• We should also never resort to violence, as the sanctity

of a believer is greater in the sight of Allah Ta’ala than
the sanctity of the Holy Ka’bah.
Hadith 19: Good deeds

َ
"Do not belittle any good deed."

Lessons:

• As Muslims, we should always make an effort to

perform righteous deeds.

• We should never belittle any good deed as even the

smallest of good deeds may be enough to take us into
Jannah if accepted by Allah Ta’ala.

• The more sincere an intention is, the greater the

reward. Sometimes a small deed is rewarded greatly
because of its intention.

• The most beloved of actions to Allah Ta’ala are the ones

that are performed regularly, even if they are small.
Hadith 20: Siwak

“Siwak purifies the mouth and pleases the
Lord.”

Lessons:

• To use a Miswak is a great Sunnah of the Prophet

• Scientific research has proved that the Miswak has many

dental benefits.

• A Salah prayed with Siwak is 70 times greater in reward

than a Salah prayed without Siwak.

• It is also recommended to use a Miswak before and

after eating, as well as before and after sleeping.
Hadith 21: The Holy Qur’an

“Whoever makes the Qur’an his priority; it
will guide them into Jannah.”

Lessons:

• The Qur’an is the final book revealed by Allah Ta’ala and

serves as a guide for Muslims on how to live their lives.

• As Muslims, we must honour the Holy Qur’an. The

greatest way of honouring it is to implement its
teachings in our lives.

• If we make the Qur’an our priority before anything else,

then it will intercede on our behalf on the Day of
Judgement.

• However, if we disregard it, it will act as a witness

against us on the Day of Judgement.
Hadith 22: Finding fault with food

never found fault with food; if liked it he
ate it, and if he disliked it he left it."
Lessons:

• We should always remember that food is provided by

Allah Ta’ala.

• Sometimes certain foods may not be appealing to us,

but others may like it.

• Anything that is Halal is pure, therefore we should not

criticise food simply because we don’t desire to eat it.

• If we dislike to eat a certain food, we should leave it

without criticising it.
Hadith 23: Signs of a believer

“A believer does not swear, curse or say

obscene things.”

Lessons:

• The tongue is one of the greatest blessings of Allah

Ta’ala.

• The tongue could be a means for us to enter Jannah, or

it could be the very reason we enter Jahannam.

• Swearing, cursing and saying obscene things are not

characteristics of a believer. In fact these are signs of
hypocrisy.

• A true believer only speaks well or remains silent.

Hadith 24: Good character

‫ك‬
‫ق‬
"I was only sent to perfect good character."

Lessons:

• The Prophet Muhammad (‫ )صلى هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬was sent to

teach people good character, and one of his greatest
miracles was his character.

• Islam spread to every corner of the globe because of the

wonderful character possessed by the Muslims.

• The more beautiful our character is, the stronger our

faith becomes.

• The closest people to the Prophet Muhammad ( ‫

‫ )وآله وسلم‬on the Day of Judgement are the ones with the
best character.
Hadith 25: Enter Jannah easily

“Spread salam, maintain family ties, feed
others and pray while people are sleeping,
then you will enter Jannah peacefully.”
Lessons:

• As Muslims, we live our lives to please Allah Ta’ala and

obtain Jannah.

• The Prophet Muhammad (‫ )صلى هللا عليه وآله وسلم‬taught us

what to do in order to enter Jannah.

• Performing these four actions regularly enables a person

to enter Jannah easily without facing any difficulties on
the Day of Judgement.

• The first three acts entail kindness to others, and only

the last one is purely for Allah Ta’ala.
