TECHNICAL DATASHEET

HYPERLOY® M1003
HYPERLOY® M1003 is a proprietary
Tungsten Carbide coating applied with the
Alphatek HVOF (High Velocity Oxy Fuel)
Process, which has been especially
developed for use in severe wear
environments.

This coating can be applied to both ferrous

and non-ferrous metal substrates, without
the need for a bond coat, resulting in a
dense, hard, and tough coating. It is
particularly suited to applications where
protection is required against sliding wear,
abrasion, fretting, erosion and corrosion.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF THE COATING

Texture:
As sprayed: ~150 micro-inches Ra (3.75 microns)
Finish machined: 4-8 micro-inches Ra (0.1 – 0.2 microns)

Metallurgy:
Micro-hardness: Hv300g 1200 (72 HRC) Typical
Apparent Porosity (volume): < 1%
Oxide Content (volume): Typically negligible
Bond Strength (Low Carbon Steel - blasted): >10,000 psi / 70 MPa (Adhesive Failure)
Typical Max. Continuous Working Temperature: 540°C

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS

HYPERLOY® M1003 coating thickness can be several millimetres, however typically 0.15 to
0.25 mm dramatically improves the performance of many critical components in the majority
of applications as follows:

• High pressure valve sealing faces for Offshore Oil & Gas and Process Industries.
• Oil Field Equipment including down-hole tools.
• Compressor rams.
• Process rolls including steel mill.
• Aircraft landing gear
