Committee: United Nations Human Rights Council

Country: Chile
Agenda: Investigation of the exploitation of migrant workers in the gulf states

Chile is a long, narrow country stretching along South Americas western edge, with more than
6,000km of Pacific ocean coastline. Its capital Santiago sits in a valley surrounded by the
Andes and Chilean coast range mountains. Official language of Chile is Spanish. Chiles total
population is 19.49 million. Chiles currency is Chilean Peso.

Despite the presence of anti-slavery leagistation in several countries still migrants are
victimised in gulf states. The migrants in gulf are not paid on time and they are paid less as
compared to a actual citizen of that country. They are kept in a very harsh condition for
example many workers building buildings in Dubai are kept in one tiny room where they all
can hardly fit. Migrants in the gulf state are not given enough holidays. They are provided
with old or very less amount of food after working long hours.

Chile condemns this type of behaviour. Chilean people are very welcoming. Cost of living in
Chile is on average 34.2% lower than in United States. Rent in Chile is on average 69.3%
lower than in United States. Chile is the fourth destination for refugees and migrants from
venezuela,after Columbia,Peru and Ecuador.

This situation can be prevented with some solutions. Official language of Chile is Spanish
which causes a language barrier between migrant workers and the people here. English is
widely spoken worldwide and is
understandable by almost everyone so it should be spoken more to overcome this barrier.
Educational camps should be set up worldwide to educate the migrants about their rights.
