➢ SINGING/PLAYING: explore and develop musical skills, using a wide variety of
traditional and contemporary music.
➢ SINGING: discover, develop and evaluate their talents and abilities relative to
singing, and to establish and reinforce correct vocal techniques and skills.
➢ READING: interpret rhythm, melody, harmony, form and expression as they
appear in musical notation through both cognitive and psychomotor responses.
➢ LISTENING: develop the ability to make aesthetic judgments based on critical
listening and analysis of music.

Lesson Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:


1. Understand how pitches can work together to make harmony.
2. Understand musical terminology and apply it to performance.
3. Apply harmony and (part) knowledge in a piece of music.

Materials:

● Piano
● Sheet music (Let It Be Music)
● Computer and smartboard/projector
● Whiteboard/markers
Lesson Procedure:

● Stretches (3 min)
○ Face and mouth stretching (work lymphatic system, massage
shoulders, neck, stretch tongue)
● Echos (5 min) (WARM UP)
○ Have students stand in a circle with their feet grounded and thinking
about their diaphragm placement. (They may sit for this portion)
○ Have them echo solfege (Do, Re, Mi, etc.)
○ Echo jumps from DO (Do-Re, Do-Mi, Do-Fa, Do-Sol, Do-La, Do-Ti,
Do-Do)
● Scales and warm-ups with the piano (ideas– choose a few from these)
○ Sirens (with different vowels, E, O, U, Ah)
○ Scales (normal) with solfege
■ Try Major and minor keys!
○ Mother made me mash my m&ms i’m mad (Do-Sol and a jump)
■ Practice this softly and loudly
● Rounds (10 min) (ideas)
○ Row row row your boat Round
■ Have students go into groups: 3 equal-ish groups to sing the
rounds
■ Students should join in on “boat”
○ One Bottle of Pop
■ One bottle of pop, two bottle of pop, etc.
■ Fish and chips and vinegar
■ Dont throw your stuff on my bunk bed
○ Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Students love to sing karaoke– I go onto youtube and type in a song and karaoke
version for them to sing. – they still need to pay attention to singing skills
(dynamics, projection, pronunciation, tone, pitch)
