2. What is CSR?
To enhance their popularity and brand image: A proper CSR recognition can appeal
to customers and buyers, creating an agency which can be extra aggressive.
To reduce their threat: CSR can help organizations to keep away from felony legal
responsibility and bad exposure.
CSR isn't always only an advertising and marketing ploy; it may actually have a high-
quality effect on am agency's backside line. Studies have proven that groups which are
committed to CSR are more likely to be successful in the long run.
Here are a few examples of the way groups are conducting CSR:

commercial enterprise practices via 2030.
Nike: The company has partnered with the Better Cotton Initiative to enhance operating
situations for cotton farmers.
Apple: The agency has devoted to the usage of most effective renewable electricity in its
manufacturing centers.
Google: The company has pledged to present 1% of its profits to charitable causes.
3. Goals of CSR:
The goals of corporate social responsibility (CSR) vary depending on the company, but they
typically include:
Improving the environmental impact of the company's operations. This may include reducing
emissions, conserving water, and using recycled materials.
Supporting the communities in which the company operates. This may include providing
education, healthcare, and other essential services.
Enhancing the company's reputation and brand image. Companies that are seen as socially
responsible are often more attractive to customers, investors, and employees.
Creating a more just and equitable society. CSR can help to address social issues such as
poverty, hunger, and inequality.
Here are some specific goals that companies may set for their CSR initiatives:
Companies can achieve these goals through a variety of methods, such as:
CSR is an important part of doing business in a sustainable and responsible way. By integrating
social and environmental concerns into their operations, companies can make a positive impact

I was born in a very poor family in Srinivaspuri, early days we could not make our ends
meet when I was 5, I was diagnosed with Polio and I lost sensation in both of my legs till
15 years of age I could not walk, I was educated in the senior secondary school of that
locality, I used to take the help of crutches to walk, I was often teased in the class for the
way I walked and I did not want to go to the school, I found art as my solace and I never
looked back, for my bachelors I got an offer from Delhi College of Art and Jamia Milia
Islamia’s Applied arts programme, I had to go with Jamia and it was a life changing
experience for me.
Their art spoke to his own experiences of struggle and isolation. Both Dalí and Van Gogh
were outsiders in their own way, and their art often reflected their personal struggles. The
founder of Maqaam Foundation may have seen himself reflected in their work and found
comfort and inspiration in their ability to express their pain and loneliness in such a
powerful way.Their art challenged conventional norms and celebrated individuality. Dalí
and van Gogh were both unconventional artists who were not afraid to break the rules. He
has admired their courage and creativity, and seen their art as a model for how to live an
authentic life despite adversity.Their art was full of hope and possibility. Despite the
darkness and despair that sometimes pervaded their work, both Dalí and van Gogh were
ultimately optimists. He found hope and inspiration in their belief that art could make the
world a better place.
So I always believed in being the change you want to see and so I decided to make an
impact by doing something for the society. I faced a lot of challenges in my life while
growing and as adult with special needs and so I decided that no other person should go
through what I went through.
I do a lot of freelancing art projects to make the ends meet. We as an organisation also get
fundings from people and governmental sources. Collaborations and promotions on our
socials help us in reaching out to a broader audience that helps in building awareness and
generating funds. For ex. We recently got a project to paint the wall of a government school
apart from that in art gallery events we have a minimal entry fees.
I specifically do not target portfolio but I target all disabilities when it come to the poorest
segments of the society, but I have vaccination awareness campaigns in my pipeline.
Art can help children develop in many different ways. It can help them develop their fine
motor skills, their creativity, and their self-expression. Art can also help children learn
about other cultures and develop their problem-solving skills. Overall, art is a valuable tool
that can help children develop into well-rounded individuals.

educate parents about these issues so that they can join our campaigns
Well it’s 2023 and mental health is still a taboo in our country especially when it comes to
the poor. Living as poor people they’re not even able to get the basic amenities like quality
education, shelter, food and so mental health is a road never travelled. So it becomes
essential to educate them about mental illnesses, the importance of mental health and also
providing them an environment that fosters their mental well-being
I have a team of 6 members, 3 members are my family members and rest of the three
members are my college friends who were part of the dramatics society.
I have acquired a place for opening a library near faridabad it is an old establishment which
I am converting into a full fledged library, in the future I want to make a resource center
for the poor, so that nobody faces what I am facing.
o. What are your thoughts on the role of corporate social responsibility in creating a
more just and equitable society?
Maqaam Foundation's work aligns with the principles of corporate social responsibility
(CSR) by addressing social and educational inequities faced by underprivileged children
in Delhi slums. Their efforts empower marginalized communities, promote social justice,
and contribute to a more equitable society.
p. You have recently met the education minister what were the outcomes of that meeting
what did you discuss.
I discussed about the inclusion of skill based courses in the curriculum of Delhi colleges
because it is evident not everyone is good at studying, along with that we also helped them
perform various wall painting exercises.
Since poor children do not have access to education and other skill development programs,
they often become prone to the consumption of drugs and other intoxicating substances.
Art helps in creating an alternative skill for these children that not only helps them in
developing new skills but also gives them an opportunity to develop and channelise their
creative skills.
r. What inspired you to work for these children with special needs?
Being a person who belongs to a similar community, I faced a lot of challenges while
growing up and even as an adult that were majorly due to polio. The challenges I faced
became clear instructions for me to bring in a change for the people who feel the same way
I do and are exposed to similar challenges.
I think Kabir’s a 13 year old Autistic artist, we had an exhibition highlighting his work for
a couple of days the event has a footfall of about 500 guests and after that event Kabir was
nominated amongst the top 10 autistic artist in the world.
u. Funding and Resource Constraints: Securing adequate funding is often a major hurdle
for NGOs working with marginalized communities. Limited resources can hinder their
ability to provide comprehensive services, expand their reach, and sustain their operations
over time.
Addressing Diverse Needs and Overcoming Barriers: The target population of such
NGOs often faces a multitude of challenges, including poverty, disability, lack of
education, and limited access to healthcare. Addressing these diverse needs and
overcoming deeply ingrained barriers requires a comprehensive and tailored approach.
Building Trust and Collaboration: Gaining the trust and cooperation of underprivileged
communities is crucial for the success of these NGOs. Building relationships,
understanding local dynamics, and working collaboratively with community members are
essential for effective interventions.
Sustainability and Long-Term Impact: Ensuring the sustainability of NGO programs
and achieving long-term impact requires strategic planning, adaptability, and ongoing
evaluation. Measuring outcomes, demonstrating effectiveness, and securing ongoing
support are critical for maintaining and expanding their impact.
Overcoming Societal Stigmas and Discrimination: Persons with disabilities and
underprivileged communities often face stigma, discrimination, and exclusion. NGOs must
work to challenge these societal norms, promote inclusion, and advocate for equal
opportunities.
Empowering Beneficiaries and Building Capacity: The ultimate goal of these NGOs is
to empower beneficiaries to become self-sufficient and contribute to their communities.
Building capacity, fostering leadership skills, and providing sustainable livelihoods are
essential components of their work.
Navigating Complex Regulatory and Policy Frameworks: NGOs must operate within
the legal and regulatory framework of their respective countries. Understanding and
complying with complex regulations can be challenging, particularly for organizations
with limited resources.
Measuring Impact and Demonstrating Effectiveness: Evaluating the impact of NGO
interventions is crucial for securing continued funding, demonstrating effectiveness, and
informing program improvement. However, measuring impact in complex social contexts
can be challenging and requires careful consideration of methodologies and data collection.
Ensuring Transparency and Accountability: Maintaining transparency and
accountability is essential for building trust with stakeholders and ensuring that resources
are used effectively. Clear governance structures, financial reporting, and participation in
stakeholder dialogues are key aspects of responsible NGO management.
Addressing Ethical Considerations and Protecting Vulnerable Populations: NGOs
working with marginalized communities must uphold ethical standards, respect individual
rights, and ensure that their interventions do not cause harm or perpetuate existing
inequalities.
The NGO, Maqaam Foundation, has strategically focused on education and skill
development for underprivileged children, aligning with the broader goal of creating a
more just and equitable society. This approach is critical for breaking the cycle of poverty
and empowering marginalized communities.
2. Utilization of Art as a Catalyst for Change:
The founder's background in art has been effectively leveraged to use creative expression
as a tool for empowerment. Art is not only a means of skill development but also a
therapeutic outlet, contributing to the mental well-being of children facing adversity.
3. Community-Centric Approach:
Maqaam Foundation's community-centric approach, targeting slum areas and the poorest
segments of society, reflects a deep understanding of the specific challenges faced by these
communities. This approach is essential for building trust, collaboration, and ensuring the
relevance of interventions.
4. Diversification of Funding Sources:
The NGO sustains itself through a combination of freelancing art projects, donations,
collaborations, and social media promotions. This diversification of funding sources is a
prudent strategy, reducing dependence on any single channel and enhancing financial
resilience.
5. Advocacy for Inclusive Education:
The founder's advocacy for inclusive education, including skill-based courses in the
curriculum, demonstrates a proactive engagement with policymakers. Collaborating with
government officials and participating in initiatives like wall painting exercises with the
education minister can lead to systemic changes.
6. Addressing Mental Health Taboos:
Recognizing mental health as a critical but often neglected aspect, Maqaam Foundation's
efforts to address mental health issues among the poor are both innovative and socially
responsible. This aligns with global trends in prioritizing mental health as an integral part
of overall well-being.
7. Resource Center Expansion:
The planned expansion into a resource center, focusing on education and skill
development, indicates a long-term vision for sustained impact. This move aligns with the
organization's commitment to addressing the diverse needs of the communities it serves.
8. Challenges and Mitigation Strategies:
The NGO faces challenges such as funding constraints, diverse needs, and societal stigmas.
To overcome these challenges, Maqaam Foundation should consider continuous advocacy
for increased awareness, collaboration with like-minded organizations, and strategic
partnerships to enhance resources.
9. Transparent and Accountable Operations:
