3 Uses of PPE’s
Commonly used types of PPE in industrial and construction workplaces
include: Safety footwear, eye protection and head protection are
minimum requirements for most jobs.
Head protection (hard hats) for protection against falling objects;
Safety glasses for protection against intense light, UV rays, infra-red rays
(radiation from hot objects) and flying objects, such as wood chips, dust
particles and metal pieces;
Earplugs or earmuffs for protection against noise;
Safety footwear for protection against crushing of toes;
Safety gloves for protection against contact with toxic chemicals and
electric wires, hand injury and
Fall protection equipment for protection from falls from heights.
Job-specific personal protective equipment may be needed for jobs such
as for welding, cutting and working with sharp tools.
At RBIPL project sites, not only worker but others too are required to
wear appropriate personal protective equipment whenever they come in
contact with construction activities. Safety helmet, safety shoes, hi-vi
(high Visibility) reflective jacket are considered mandatory PPEs & must
be worn by each & every individual at site including visitor in PPE zone. In
addition to the mandatory PPEs workers have to wear job specific PPEs as
per the risk assessment of the activity or job. Persons other than a
worker e.g. visitor, vendor etc. must wear the job specific personal
protective equipment at the workplace in accordance with any
information, training or reasonable instruction provided by safety
representatives.
