CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

The internship mainly focused on the key areas of soft skills, IT skills and experiential learning. The
duration of the internship was 3 weeks with focus on the above-mentioned topics in each week
respectively. The internship included learning as well as implementing various concepts by
accomplishing tasks & assignments. The 3-week internship focused on cultivating essential soft
skills, IT proficiencies, and experiential learning. Each week was devoted to one of these focal
points. Through a blend of instructional modules and hands-on assignments, participants not only
absorbed key concepts but also applied them in practical scenarios, fostering holistic skill
development.

CHAPTER 2
DESCRIPTION ABOUT THE COLLEGE – NHCE

New Horizon College of Engineering is an Autonomous college affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological


University (VTU), approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) & University Grants
Commission (UGC). It is accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ grade & National Board of Accreditation (NBA). New
Horizon College of Engineering is located in the heart of the IT capital of India, Bangalore. The college campus
is situated in the IT corridor of Bangalore surrounded by MNCs and IT giants such as Intel, Accenture,
Capgemini, ARM, Symphony, Wipro, Nokia, JP Morgan and Cisco to name a few.

NHCE has a scenic and serene campus that provides an environment which is conducive for personal and
intellectual growth. The infrastructure acts as a facilitator for the effective delivery of the curriculum. NHCE
boasts of state-of-the-art facilities for its students.

They are given utmost encouragement in their areas of interest by providing hi-tech facilities backed by
faculty support. The institute places highest priority on innovative programs that include both traditional
classroom theory and professional skills training. There is a strong impetus on overall personality
development of the students with emphasis on soft skills.

Students are supported through mentoring and counseling systems. The management offers scholarships to
meritorious students. At NHCE, we understand and respect our role as educators and from the moment a
student walks into the campus, he/she is well guided to know his/her strengths and choose an area of
functional specialization. This enables students to concentrate their efforts and energies to gain the
competitive edge. NHCE has a unique distinction of achieving 100% admissions in all its courses year
afteryear.

CHAPTER 3
DESCRIPTION ABOUT DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION SCIENCE &
ENGINEERING

Information science and Engineering department focuses on current Information Technology trends, and
Domain Specific Applications. The program facilitates the evolution of skills in students to help them attain
a higher degree of knowledge, global competency and excellence, for the betterment of the society. The
Department of Information science and Engineering at NHCE was established in the year of 2001 and offers
graduate, post graduate and PhD programs. The four year B.E degree equip the students to meet day- to-
day Technological advancements of the ever dynamic IT field through adept training on various subjects of
curriculum of Information Science and engineering and beyond. The department offers B.E program
through autonomous scheme from the year 2015. The department has a total intake of over 380 students
with a very good team of highly qualified and talented faculty members including Professors, Associate
Professors and Assistant Professors.

Information Science and Engineering course at New Horizon College of Engineering is designed to meet
industry standard and cope up with the emerging technology. There is a great emphasis on holistic
learning to help the students to make significant contributions at all levels and to meet the expectations
of stakeholders. The department is well known for its research excellence in various competitive areas of
Information Science. Students are made to involve vigorously in research activities. The department
provides industry collaborated courses for the students.

ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN WEEK 1 – IT SKILLS

The domain for the week 1 was IT skills which included creating & formatting Word
documents, working with spreadsheets and using PowerPoint for developing presentations.

4.1 MS WORD TRAINING


Microsoft Word is used for creating, editing and formatting documents. MS Word is designed
to create, edit, format, and manage documents, making it an essential tool for various
professional, educational, and personal tasks

tools

creating reports, lists, and tabulated information.

Microsoft Excel is a powerful spreadsheet software used for various tasks involving data analysis,
manipulation, visualization, and more. Excel provides a grid of cells organized in rows and
columns, where users can enter, calculate, and manipulate data.

The domain for the week 2 was soft skills & quantitative aptitude.

Soft skills, often referred to as interpersonal or people skills, are non-technical qualities and
abilities that enable effective communication, collaboration, and interaction with others. They
play a crucial role in personal and professional success by enhancing relationships, teamwork, and
adaptability. Grammar refers to the rules and structures that govern the way words are used in a
language to convey meaning. It encompasses various elements such as sentence structure, verb
conjugation, tense usage, punctuation, and more.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
The domain for the week 3 was experiential learning which included the following topics:

o Fundamentals of C Programming: C programming is a powerful and widely-used


programming language that is commonly used for system programming, software
development, and various applications
o HTML (Hypertext Markup Language): It is a standard markup language used to
create web pages and structure their content. HTML provides a way to define the
elements and structure of a web page, including text, images, links, and other media.
o Digital Logic Design: Digital Logic Design is a field of engineering and computer
science that focuses on the design and implementation of digital circuits and
systems.

Fundamentals of C programming was learnt which included the following topics:

• Tags & Formatting Tags: HTML consists of various tags that define the structure and
content of a web page. Some commons tags are: <html>,<head>,<body>,etc.

• Hyperlinks: They are used to create clickable links that allow users to navigate to other
web pages or resources. Hyperlinks are created using the <a> (anchor) tag.

• Frames & Forms: Frames allows to divide a web page into multiple independent sections,
each containing its own HTML document. Forms are used to collect and submit user input,

internship revolve around the concepts of web development, programming, editing, formatting,

CHAPTER 7

CONCLUSION

The internship provided a great exposure to explore, learn and implement various concepts. There
were many technical takeaways as mentioned, but the learning about soft skills was also of
great importance. Soft skills such as teamwork, communication, grooming, body- language, time
management, and problem-solving are really essential in any technical field. It was an amazing
experience to learn the technical skills, soft skills as well as practical skills. The internship offered
a remarkable opportunity for comprehensive exploration, learning, and practical application of a
diverse range of concepts. While there were numerous technical takeaways, the acquisition of
soft skills was equally invaluable.
