FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

A Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is designed to

 enhance their teaching and other skills

 make them aware about modern teaching tools and methodologies
 acquire knowledge about current technological developments in relevant fields.
 impart professional practices relevant to technical education
 achieve competitive teaching and learning environment and
 channelize development with respect to academic qualifications and personal matters

Through each SDP, 15-20 faculty members of Science and Engineering colleges and Polytechnics are trained for a
duration of 2-3 weeks.

 a) Objective & Context:

 This FDP aims to enlighten the participants who wish to enhance their programming skills in the
area of Python and take up their own project.
 Massive volume of data is being generated from industries and other sectors.
 Analysis of this data is becoming challenging due to precision required in classification of data
and pattern analysis.
 The Faculty Development Program aims to familiarize the participants with data analysis,
machine learning algorithms and to implement them using Python/R for predictive analysis and
pattern identification etc.
 To study the recent engineering problems in data.
 To develop new methods and algorithms for training, effective teaching and research.
 To implement image processing algorithms.
 To train faculties for exploring research opportunities and carryout Innovative interpretations.
 To equip faculties with skills and knowledge in the field of Data Analysis using Python/R., Deep
Learning and Machine Learning which are essential for inculcating learning values in students,
guiding and monitoring their progress towards their career.
 Enable the participants to develop Web applications on their own and to train them to use Python
with MYSQL.
 Enhance the participant’s technical career towards the new technological developments that
happens in the teaching

b) Relevance :
It imparts knowledge and training on the fundamentals of interdisciplinary field of Data Analysis and
Machine Learning Using Python and R with its different aspects and applications.
To make the participants familiar with emerging field of Machine Learning along with the preparation of
data for extracting valuable insights from vast amount of heterogeneous data.
It is beneficial to faculty members & research scholars who intend to practice/begin research in the field
of processing and analysis of data using advanced techniques such as AI/ML/DL etc.

c) Benefits to faculty
1. To give benefits to the students’ progress by training the faculties.
2. By publishing research papers in journals beneficial to the faculties and students.
3. Special skill training for students through trained faculties.
4. To make faculties explore for new research opportunities
5. Faculties will be equipped with skills and knowledge in the field of Machine learning, speech
processing, image processing, video processing related to emerging industrial trends.
d) Expected Outcome:
Upon successful completion of the training programme, participants should be able to perform
and contribute as a Data Science Team Member on Data Analysis and Machine Learning Using
Python/R by:
a) Deploying the Data Analysis Lifecycle to address Using Python/R projects.
b) Reframing a business challenge as an analytics challenge.
 c) Applying appropriate analytic techniques and tools to analyze Python, create statistical
models, and identify insights that can lead to actionable results.
d) Faculty members will get adequate knowledge on Machine Learning with Python and R will
train the students to excel in the field
e) Selecting appropriate data visualizations to clearly communicate analytic insights to business
sponsors and analytic audiences.
f) Using tools such as: R and R. Studio, Map Reduce/Hadoop

For this FDP speakers are invited:
1. From eminent institutions like IISc, IIT’s, NIT’s and industries, who are interested in research
fields.
2. Research scholars who are interested to share their knowledge.
3. Academicians from some of the technical institutions of National Interest.

About the College

Karpaga Vinayaga College of Engineering and Technology is a premier technical institution in the
industrial city of Chennai. The college was started in 2001 by Thiru.S.Regupathy , Founder, Karpaga
Vinayaga Educational Trust. Ever since its inception it has set the stage for quality technical education.

About the Department

The Department of Computer Applications was established in the year 2006. Six batches of students have
meritoriously passed out from the department. Qualitative education imparted by the faculty members
enable the students to excel in both academic as well as extra-curricular activities. Faculty members in
the department have specialized in various areas of computer science such as Networking, Database
Languages, Other Programming Languages like java, VB, .NET etc. Apart from excelling in academic
sphere, the faculty members are also actively guiding & pursuing research activities. Faculties of the
department are presenting research articles in various national and international conferences apart from
publishing original research articles in national and international journals with high impact factor.
