Norton White Tile Glass Ceramic Plates

Method
HUDSON JAMES·SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2020·

This is for my 2.5 watt Eleksmaker...different lasers will require doing tests on painted tile with different
power/speed/DPI settings

GREYSCALE,,will give different results than dithers

Paints with a high TiO2 content will give best results

DO NOT USE AIR ASSIST (co2 users may have to use air assist to keep lens clean)

The above paints(in photo) are the ones I,ve had good luck with...some people have had good results with Smokey
Beige which allows you to also see coverage of paint...

PREPARATION

1/ your laser must be pinpoint focused..this will make or break your outcome

make sure you focus on top of test tile

2/...How I focus...then I look at scan under a USB Microscope

3/ ....TILE prep...clean tile with Laquer thinner FIRST..this removes and oils /debris etc from surface

4/ Paint the tile(s) one thin coat overlapping sprays and allow to dry...the time varies with temp/humidity...to speed
things up after 1/2 hour after painting I use an old hairdryer on high for about 5-10 minutes

5/ prep your image....there are numerous softwares and scripts that are available..ImagR I found to be the
best ...Lightburn also has photo enhancement under shape properties (Save image as BMP)

NOTE: when prepping tiles choose the size and DPI you are going to use in your laser software,,,DO NOT RESIZE
in software (ie LightBurn)

ALSO the DPI you use is dependent on the size/power of your Laser ....using a higher DPI then what your laser can
achieve will ruin results

LASER IMAGE

if you used a script or dithered your image while prepping you MUST use “PASSTHROUGH” in LightBurn
You DO NOT need to invert image as you are lasering on a white substrate

Import into software.... if you used a script or dithered your image while prepping you MUST use
“PASSTHROUGH” in LightBurn

for my 2.5 watt my speed is 1200 mm/min @80% power and I use 318 DPI

CLEANING

I use a a capfull or two of Lacquer thinner poured on surface..wait 30 seconds and scrap off paint with 2 inch putty
knife

Then with a Lacquer thinner wetted scott towel/rag/cloth I remove all paint residue
