1.0 INTRODUCTION

In the week 6 , we continue our project with another activities in the

carpentary workshop. We have to do the connection with wood (plywood
type) and other parts to make a chair. After that , we paint two parts of
plywood to be the finishes of the project.

1.1 OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this week:

1. To jointing the plywood as the seating surface on the chair frame.

2. To do some finishes to the plywood and complete the project
successfully.
1.2 CUTTING

 For the chair bench, we choose the suitable engineered wood

which is Plywood.
 The material is made from plastic lumber, considered one of the most
vital types of plastic available.
 It is affordable and good material to make furniture.
 It is light and not easy to sculpt and is not very durable compared
to hardwood.
 Before we start to cut the wood , we have to measure the wood
and determine the suitable size of wood
 Plus , we must to make mark on the wood surface
 In this situation , we need to cut like the diagram below :

 For the left wood , we make it as the chair bench while for the right
wood we make it as the chair back.
 For this process , we will use the machine as a priorty tools in
workshop
 it is faster and time saver compared to hand tools like hand saw
which require more energy to cut wood
 There are two types of machine that we use in this steps such as :

Band saw

Disc and Belt

 The pictures show the process to sharp the wood corner into curve
shape.
 The suitable machine for this process is Disc and Belt.

 The pictures show the process to cut the wood with band saw.
 The machine is suitable to cut tiny part of wood thoroughly and
effectively.
1.3 FINISHING

 After we cut a little part of the wood , we have to paint the wood
with brush
 It is essential for the long lasting and reduce water damage
 For this process, we need to paint the wood surface and dry it at
the appropriate area.

 The convenient paint to make finishes for the project is Synthetic

High Gloss Finish.
 creates a really glossy finishing that resists moisture and humidity.
 Beside that , it have fungus resistance so it will protect the quality
of wood.
1.4 CONCLUSION

In conclusion, cutting and painting are some skills that civil engineering
students have to mastered it during the carpentary work.It is useful to
produce the best product from wood and improve our quality work in the
future.

Moreover , civil engineering student must to know how to use carpentry

handtools and machines and be more confidence to handle it . It can
simplify and decrease time in cutting and punching process in
carpentary work.
