SECTION 16990

ELECTRICAL SUB-STATION

PART 1 – GENERAL

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

A - Drawings, general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Di-
vision 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2 SUMMARY.

The Contractor shall be responsible for preparing all drawings and taking approval of the same
from MEW. Drawings should be includes all necessary changes to the designed drawing of the
Consultant due to variation during the course of contract or any new requirements of the regulations
and necessary requirements of MEW to hand over the project to MEW as well as the Engineer.

The Contractor shall be responsible and liable for preparing shop drawings for civil works for sub-
station and taking approval of the same from MEW before starting works at site , any delay due to
following up/obtaining the approval from MEW shall be the Contractor's responsibility without
any claim to the Employer, the same is applicable for sub-station in the buildings.

Lighting sockets outlet and electrical boards. for any portion of the works which should reasonably
and obviously be inferred as necessary by the Engineer for the complete, safe and satisfactory oper-
ation of the installation as whole be not expressly described or specified. The Contractor shall pro-
vide and execute such works as part of the contract and shall not be entitled to any extra payment
on that account.

The Electrical Contractor shall co-ordinate his work with all other services and he shall be held
fully responsible for obtaining all information and details of locations and routes of water pipes,
sanitary pipes, etc. After co-ordination, the Contractor shall submit for the approval of the Engi-
neer, the coordinated drawings showing any modifications works , contractor will be fully responsi-
ble for executing all this modification with no extra money and the same within contract period.

Contractor should check any conflict between the electrical services and other services, and then
the Contractor shall carryout these modifications with no extra payment and the same contract pe-
riod.

MEW Transformer Earthing: contractor to Provide earthing system to the transformers proposed to
be installed by the MEW to the local substation of the building. Contractor shall Co-ordinate with
authorities (MEW) to ensure compliance.
Contractor to be Ensure that all builders work details for various electrical equipment, which are
needed early in the construction programme, are well established in the early stages of construction.
This includes, but not in a way of limitations, MEW electric service ducts, Transformers .H.T.
Panel, generators and auxiliary services layout, switchgears, cable routes… etc.
Contractor to be Ensure that all mechanical works such as fire fighting works, exhaust fan ventila-
tion, air cold units… etc which are needed early in the substations are well established in the early
stages of construction. As per KFD and MEW requirements

PART – 2 REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATIONS:

The Contractor shall install the whole of the Electrical works in strict conformity with the latest
rules and requirements of the Ministry of Electricity & Water (MEW).
All materials and the installation to be approved by the Engineer prior to ordering them.

STANDARDS:

Except as otherwise specified or indicated on the drawings, all material and equipment shall com-
ply with the applicable standards and requirements of:
 The Contractor shall refer to MEW for Electrical Services for all items which are not in-
cluded in Particular Specification or Contract drawings.
 International Electro technical Commission (IEC).
 British Standard Specifications (BSS) where standards have not been established by IEC.
 MEW standard specification for external lighting as well as the items included in particular
specifications or the Contract.

PART – 3 DRAWINGS:

The Contractor shall refer to all relevant civil, mechanical, plumbing drawings and obtain for him -
self the location and routes of all gas and water services, telephone and electrical ducts etc., so as to
maintain adequate clearance between electrical, telephone and other services.
The drawings, specifications and Bill of Quantities are complementary. If there is any discrepancy
among the above, this should be clearly brought out in the offer by the tendered and any addition/re-
duction shall be quoted in the offer.
At the time of execution the Engineer shall determine the correct manner in which the said portion
of the work is to be executed. No claims for extra payment will be allowed due to this.
The locations of electrical equipment, devices, outlets, and similar items, as indicated on the draw-
ings are approximate only. Exact locations shall be as determined or accepted by the Engineer dur-
ing Construction without claim.
All materials and equipment which should be reasonably and obviously inferred as necessary for a
complete installation shall be furnished and indicated on the Contractor's shop drawings for installa-
tion whether or not explicitly indicated or described on the Contract Documents.
