ASSEMBLY OF FITTINGS WITH


STRAIGHT THREADS AND O-RING SEALS

I. Put locknut (3), backup washer (4) and O-ring


seal (5) as far back on fitting body (2) as possible. 2
Hold these components in this position. Tum the
fitting into the part it is used on, until backup
washer (4) just makes contact with the face of the
part it is used on. 3

NOTE: If the fitting is a connector (straight fitting) or


plug, the hex on the body takes the place of the locknut.
To install this type fitting tighten, the hex against the
face of the part it goes into.

WATER PUMP

Tighten nut (1) that holds the impeller to a torque of 55 lb. ft. (75
Nom). Continue to tighten until the cotter pin can be installed.
Use the procedure that follows to install the seal assembly:
a. Put water on seal (4).
b. Use 7N8268 Installation Tool and hand pressure only to install
seal (4) and the ring together in the housing bore with the shiny
face of the ring outside.
c. Remove spring (2) from seal (3).
d. Put water inside the seal assembly.
e. Install the seal assembly around the shaft, with the 7N8268 5
Installation Tool, (the tool is with the seal group) until the
carbon face makes contact with the shiny face of the ring.
f. Install spring (2).
NOTE: Put engine oil on the lip of seal (5).
