Torque Values for Standard Hardware

Introduction
The following tables list torque values for standard hardware. They are intended as a guide for
average applications involving typical stresses and machined surfaces.
Torque values are measured in Newton meters (Nm) and foot pounds (ft. lb.), according to grade,
diameter and application (i.e. dry or lubricated).
NOTE: Length of the nut or bolt does not affect the torque value.
In all cases, when an individual torque value is specified elsewhere in the service manual, it
should take precedence over values given in this table. Always replace original hardware with
hardware of equal grade.

Metric Torque Values

ISO grades (i.e. 8.8, 10.9 and 12.9) of metric bolts are stamped on the head of the bolt. ISO 8.8
metric bolt is equivalent to Grade 5 Imperial bolt. ISO 12.9 metric bolt is equivalent to Grade 8
Imperial bolt. Lower torque values are for nuts and bolts with a surface finish. If a mechanical
bolting method is used, multiply the given value by 0.91.
NOTE: To convert Nm to ft. lb., multiply by 0.7375621.
