Objective:
To practice the convert entities command, working with planes, axis & coordinate system and
the shell 3D feature and to practice a 3D drawing.
Materials:
SolidWorks software
Sample 3D model (e.g., cylinder, gear, or any complex object)
Computer with sufficient resources
convert Entities Command:
The "convert entities" command is a fundamental tool in CAD software that allows users to
replicate 2D shapes or entities into a 3D space.
Choose a basic 2D shape, such as a circle, rectangle, or spline, that serves as the
foundation for replication.
Execution of "Convert Entities" Command:
Activate the "convert entities" command from the CAD software's toolbar or menu.
Select the previously chosen 2D shape as the source entity.
The command then converts the selected 2D shape into a 3D representation, creating a
duplicate or extrusion in the desired direction.
working with planes, axis & coordinate system
We can create planes in part or assembly documents. We can use planes to sketch, to create a section
view of a model, for a neutral plane in a draft feature, and so on.
Plane PropertyManager
We select geometry and apply constraints to the geometry to define reference planes.
In SolidWorks is a tool used to create hollow structures within solid objects. It allows
users to selectively remove material from the interior of a 3D part, leaving behind a
specified wall thickness. This feature is valuable for designing lightweight
components, creating internal enclosures, and optimizing parts for 3D printing. By
selecting faces and setting thickness parameters, the Shell feature provides flexibility
in tailoring the design to specific requirements. Understanding and applying the Shell
feature enhances the versatility of 3D modeling in SolidWorks.

Conclusion
In summary, the lab focused on key aspects of CAD modeling: the "Convert Entities"
command, working with planes, axis & coordinate systems, and utilizing the Shell 3D feature.
The "Convert Entities" command efficiently replicated 2D shapes in 3D space, while working
with planes and coordinate systems provided precise spatial control. The Shell 3D feature
showcased its versatility in creating hollow structures. The 3D drawing practice integrated
these skills, offering a practical application. Overall, the lab successfully built a foundational
understanding of essential CAD commands, setting the stage for more advanced modeling
challenges.
