was performed to study the effect of the coupling of applied stress and corrosion on the corrosion rate of carbon steel and
galvanized carbon steel, which was verified by weightlessness method. Studies show that the existence of tensile stress can
significantly reduce the surface resistance of carbon steel and galvanized carbon steel, accelerate the dissolution rate of
electrolyte on the steel surface, and accelerate the corrosion rate of steel. According to the results of electrochemical test and
weightlessness method,The relationship models between stress corrosion acceleration factor and elastic stress of carbon steel
and galvanized carbon steel were established respectively. (3) The tensile test of corroded steel material was carried out to
study the effect of corrosion on the ten sile fracture morphology, stress-strain curve and mechanical properties of steel (yield
strength, ultimate strength, elastic modulus, ultimate strain and elongation after fracture). A relation model for the mechanical
properties and corrosion rate of steel was obtained. The stress-strain curve of steel was established con sidering the coupling
effect of corrosive environment, applied stress and corrosion time.(4) General corroded members and local random pitting
members with different corrosion levels were obtained respectively via using indoor accelerated corrosion and mechanical
drilling and milling methods. The local and overall stability tests of 34 axial compression members we re carried out. On this
basis, the main factors affecting the remaining capacity of corroded members were studied by ANSYS finite element
parametric analysis. Aiming at the general corroded members that are common in marine atmosphere and industrial
atmosphere, a degradation model of bearing capacity over time with average corrosion rate and pitting depth variation
coefficient as the main influencing indicators was established and verified by the experimental data. For local corroded
members that often occur in seawater environments,a degradation model of the bearing capacity over time with average
corrosion rate, corrosion extension and component normalized slenderness ratio as the influence indicators was established
and verified. (5) Based on the theory of probability and statistics, the time-dependent performance function of corroded steel
members was established by introducing the capacity degradation model. The Monte Carlo Method of Random Sampling was
used to study the degradation rule of the reliability of steel members with stress and time in the marine atmosphere and
industrial atmosphere. The time-dependent rely ability prediction model of steel members considering the corrosion
environment and stress was proposed to predict the remaining life of corroded steel members.(6) Through the analysis of the

reliability of a 6-story and 76 m high kiln tail preheater tower structure in an industrial atmosphere via the finite element software
ANSYS/PDS module, the non-linear time-dependent degradation rule of the reliability of Structural component strength and
stiffness with corrosion time was obtained. By analyzing the sensitivity of structural response indicators, the key sensitive
resistance factors that affect the structural time dependent reliability were obtained, which can provide reference for the opti
mal design of steel structures. ( 7 ) According To the different corrosion levels of the steel structure, the multi-level durability
design goals of the steel structure were proposed, and the corresponding durability quantification indexes were given. The
corrosion margin was given for different atmospheric environments and types of steel. On these bases, a design method
named "Three Levels" for the life-cycle of steel structure with consideration of the impact of corrosive environment was
proposed. An actual engineering example was used to explain the specific design process. Optimization suggestions regarding
steel structure life-cycle design considering the corrosion impact were proposed. The life-cycle based steel structure design
method proposed in this dissertation can provide scientific guidance for the design of new steel structures in corrosive
environments, and also provide theoretical basis for the durability evaluation, life prediction and maintenance for existing steel
