(1600mm X 1600mm X 180mm SIZE)

CALCULATION FOR PANEL STEEL REQUIRED FOR EARTH PRESSURE:
Please find below the earth pressure calculation for various height of wall. We have considered two cases to cover all the options of reinforcement positioning.

Considering the connector position for various heights, span has been considered as per design.

From above table, it has been clearly derived that for the height above 8 meter, panel reinforcement required is 8 mm dia @110 mm c/cin main direction and 8
mm dia @ 150 c/c in other direction and for height upto 8m, panel reinforcement required is 8 mm dia @ 150 mm in both direction.

200 BM Diagram

Note:For panels with three connector, there is an additional reinforcement, in between this
two connectors and the required strength of geogrid is lesser than the maximum (250 Kn/m)
considered here for calculations. Hence the case of 600mm cantilever span and cantilever
moment is the worst case in all the types of panels.

Sample calculation:
Maximum Bending Moment is 21.833 KN-m/m

Calculation for Width of panel = 1000mm

Effective depth of panel = 120mm

Depth of panel required,

BM = 0.138 x σck x b x d2

21.833 1 10
. =
1000 0.138 35

= 67.233mm < 120mm (For Moment at End)

Hence Ok.
Panel Steel required,

Bending Moment (Annex-G-1.1, IS 456)

21.833x 106== 0.87 500 (120 − )

At = 441.46 mm2 (Requirement for Maximum factored bending moment)

Provided 8 T @ 110 mm c/c = 457 mm2/m, which is greater than required

Hence OK.

Considering higher factor of safety for the stresses, finally, reinforcements for panels are provided as 8mm
diameter @ 120mm c/c in main direction and 8mm diameter @ 150mm c/c in other direction. Please find
below the reinforcement layout for panel:

NOTES:PANEL DESIGN & REINFORCEMENT DETAILS FOR HEIGHT ABOVE8.00 M.

NOTES:PANEL DESIGN & REINFORCEMENT DETAILS FOR HEIGHT UPTO8 M.
Calculation for connection: (16mm (MS Bar) connector rod)

A) Tensile stress in each leg of Loop:

Ultimate Tensile strength of Geogrid = 300kN/m with strip width of 300mm

(LTDS of 300mm width of strip, i.e. {(300/3.333*1.57*1.15*1.15)} = 43.350 kN)

Maximum tension in each grid 300mm wide = 43.350/ 1.5 = 28.90kN (For 250 kN/m Tensile strength Geogrid
of 300mm width); where in 1.5 is to consider actual load on connector.

For double strip total tension = 2 * 28.90 = 57.80

Considering total No of legs are 2.

Tension in each leg = 57.80 /2 = 28.90kN.

Sacrificial cross-sectional area of 16 mm dia rod = 16 – (2 x 0.75) = 14.5 mm

Net cross-sectional area = 14.5 = 165.13 mm2

Allowable tensile strength = 0.6 x = 0.6 x 500 = 300 N/ mm2

Allowable tension on each Leg = (165.13 x 300) / 1000

= 49.54 kN> 24.08 kN

Hence, OK.

B) Shear Force in Loop leg:

Shear force = Tension in each leg = 28.90kN

Net Cross-sectional area = 165.13 mm2

Allowable shear force in each leg = 165.13 x 0.45 x 500 / (1000)

= 37.15 kN> 24.08 kN

Hence, OK.
C) Development Length for connector:

=

As per IS: 456, Clause 26.2, Development Length is given as

Where,

 = Nominal diameter of the bar = 16mm

s= Stress in bar at the section considered in the design load

bd= Design bond stress = 1.7(M35) (as per Table 26.2.1.1 of IS: 456)

Therefore, bd= 1.7 N/mm2

Tension in Leg = 57.80 /2 = 28.90kN = 28900 N

Therefore = = 143.736N/mm2
.

Development Length required,

.
= = 388.202 mm
.

Provided full length of zig zag connection, hence the total resistance length is much more than above.

Note:If we considered for single leg, then the length of each leg is to be increased by 100mm. In that case total
length of connector rod is increased to 200mm, for maximum strength of grid, otherwise above dimension is
OK.
CHECK FOR PANEL REINFORCEMENT AT THE TIME OF LIFTING

Considering the lifting hook position, span has been considered as below:

Panel dimension: (lifting hook position)

0.18m thick panels

0.4m 0.8m 0.4m

Calculation:

Unit Weight of panel: 25 kN/cum

UDL for the width of the panel = 25 x 0.18 = 4.5 kN/m

For Limit state approach UDL = 4.5 *1.5 =6.75 kN-m/m

Span considered for Cantilever moment = 0.4 meter

Maximum Cantilever Bending Moment = WL2 / 2 = 0.54 kN-m/m

Effective depth of panel = (180-60) mm = 120mm

Strength of concrete required to lift the panel,

BM = 0.138 x σck x b x d2

0.54 x 106 = 0.138 x σckx 1000 x 1202

σck = 0.27 N/mm2 ; Considered minimum of 1 N/mm2

Hence Ok.

Panel Steel required,

y  At
Bending Moment  0.87  y  At (d  ) (Annex-G-1.1, IS 456)
ck  b

500  At
0.54 x 106  0.87  500  At (120  )
11000
At < 10 mm2

Provided 8 T @ 150 mm c/c – both ways = 350mm2/m, which is greater than required.

Hence OK.
