1.0 PURPOSE:
The purpose of this document is to describe the work procedure to be adopted for gypsum work.
.

2.0 SCOPE:
The scope covers the work method for surface preparation, mixing, application, finishing of gypsum over

all over internal wall surfaces & Ceiling.

3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS:


Technical Specification, Drawing, BOQ & IS Code

4.0 TOOLS & MATERIALS:

a) Water: Water used for gypsum work should be clean and free from injurious
i. Amount of deleterious materials. Water must meet the requirements of
ii. IS 456-2000 (Amendment 2013).
b) Gypsum plaster bags.
c) Spatula/Trowel/Blade as application tools.
d) Approved make Gypsum.
e) MSDS for Approved make Gypsum.

5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 PREPARATION OF SURFACE
a) Clean loose particles, dirt, grease and traces of foreign material from the surface, if necessary, by
using sand paper or by chipping.
b) For loose plaster areas, remove the defective material and re-plaster the area.
c) Fill up any cracks in base plaster by using par crack fill or by approved method statement.

5.2 MIXING
a) Take 10-12 liters of portable water per 40kg bag in a clean bucket. Add the required quantity of
gypsum plaster. Stir continuously using an electric mixer or by hand to obtain a homogeneous
lump-free paste.

b) Allow the resultant paste to stand for about 10 minutes for the additives to dissolve. Remix again
for about 2 minutes, Use the mix within 60 minutes.

5.3 APPLICATION

d) Dampen the surface to be plastered with clean water. Allow excess water to drain off.
e) Using a steel trowel/blade, apply the above mix to a thickness of about 1mm. Level and smoothen
the surface.
f) Apply the second coat after the first coat has fully dried and set.
g) The thickness of each coat should not exceed 1mm and total plaster thickness should not exceed
2mm.
h) Smoothen with a steel trowel. Sand paper if so desired with 600no sand paper.
i) Adequate illumination to be provided during application.

6.0 RESPONSIBILITY

a) The Project Manager shall be responsible for all the activities of work execution.

b) The site engineer shall be the responsible to execute the work as per the approved method statement. Ensure
operatives are working in accordance with method statement.

c) The supervisor shall be responsible for managing site execution and control of labors, materials &
tools/tackles for the work.

d) The surveyor shall be responsible for the level, co-ordinate checking with respect to the drawing.
Work with site engineer to carry out the as- built survey/ top of concrete if any.

e) The QC engineer shall be responsible for ensuring the quality of work as per the Technical
specifications & Method statement. ITP implementation and ensuring the quality of work execution.

f) The safety officer shall be responsible to ensure the safety of workers during the progress of work.

6.0 QUALITY CONTROL:

a) It should be ensured that all plastering work in proper line alignment & proper thickness.
b) Mock up to be done for this activity prior to commencement of chasing activity.

8.0 DOCUMENTATION:
a) Architecture Drawing.
b) Site log/Register/Checklist

9.0 SAFETY:
a) All supervisory staff in general and Safety supervisor / steward in particular should be
continuously monitoring the activity during operations.
b) Safety supervisor / steward should ensure that Hazard Identification & Risk Analysis (HIRA) is
followed for this particular process.
c) Construction Engineer should ensure that all staff and workers on site are wearing PPE.
d) Construction Engineer / Safety steward should report any incident immediately to Safety Officer
/ Engineer.
