1.0 PURPOSE:
This method Statement describes the construction process to execute the fixing of aluminum windows as per
approved specifications in planned and systematic manner.

2.0 REFERANCE STANDARDS:


a) Approved MEP drawings
b) Technical Specifications- Architectural & Structural
c) Technical Specifications
d) Approved FQP

3.0 MATERIALS:
a) Sealant
b) Approved Make Sections (Jindal)

4.0 EQUIPMENTS:
The equipment to be used for the application of the above products shall be in good working
order complying with the manufacturers recommendations:

a) Hand Tools
b) Drill Machine
c) Glass suckers
d) Sealant applicator
e) Cutting Saw
f) Lifting Belt
g) Cradle/Scaffolds

5.0 RESPONSIBILITY

a) The Project Manager shall be responsible for all the activities of work execution.

b) The site engineer shall be the responsible to execute the work as per the approved method statement. Ensure
operatives are working in accordance with method statement.

c) The supervisor shall be responsible for managing site execution and control of labors, materials &
tools/tackles for the work.

d) The surveyor shall be responsible for the level, co-ordinate checking with respect to the drawing.
Work with site engineer to carry out the as- built survey/ top of concrete if any.

e) The QC engineer shall be responsible for ensuring the quality of work as per the Technical
specifications & Method statement. ITP implementation and ensuring the quality of work execution.

f) The safety officer shall be responsible to ensure the safety of workers during the progress of work.

6.0 PROCEDURE
1.Delivery, Storage and Handling
• Delivery
Before delivery, windows and theirs various components should be fully protected to ensure the
components remain in good condition until they are ready for installation.
All materials for delivery should be verified against the quantity and batch number stated in the
delivery order. All required accessories, including friction stays, handles, locking devices, fixing,
etc. should be delivered together with the main components. Materials could be packed in either
steel pallets or skids. Upon delivery on site, the materials should be checked for damages during
transportation and that the delivered materials are in compliance with the specifications. Any
damaged or incorrect materials should be returned to the factory.

• Storage
Proper site storage is important in preventing damages to the window components. A suitable
storage location should be: Sheltered from weathering and fallen objects; and Located for ease of
material handling and distribution.

• Handling
Large window units and components which cannot be delivered via staircases should be hoisted in
pallets to each floor before distributing to the different areas for installation. In cases where
window frames need to be hoisted without the pallet, the frame should be handled only at the
designed strong points.

2. Preparation Work
Ensure all openings are as per approved drawings. Cleaning of dust on masonry opening of doors
& windows with the brush or cloth. Opening shall be ensured prior to installation to match
Aluminum schedule.

3. Marking
Reference line (R.L) should be set up at appropriate location to facilitate proper alignment of the
wall openings and installation of the window frames.

4. Installation
a) Verify site dimensions prior to start of fabrication.
b) Frames shall be aligned plumb and square in the opening by use of plumb, spirit level&
PVC shims.
c) All units shall be installed from the inside according to approved drawing.
d) The frame shall be installed first, by using fixing screws according to approved drawings,
screw type, material & length as per approved MIR.
e) Even margin between frame and wall finishing to be maintained according to approved
drawings using correct shims in place.
f) Frames shall be rigidly anchored by use of stainless steel screws & fisher plug as per
approved MIR.
g) Once the frame is checked for correct alignment, plumb & square, all fixing screws will be
tightened properly.
h) All fastenings & anchors shall be concealed unless otherwise directed by the client.

5. Glazing Method of windows


Glazing process is done in following manners:
 Glazing is secured by a bead and gasket system.
 Inserting the glass setting block, ensuring that it is placed in correct locations.
 Clean the glass unit thoroughly.
 Fix the outer gasket vertical & horizontal.
 Corners of gaskets at joints will be sealed with sealant as approved.
 Inserting the glass unit into the aperture and set properly onto the setting blocks.

 Fixing the glazing beads at top and bottom shutter.
 Inserting the internal wedge gasket.
 Clean off all the marks from class and clean it properly.
 Application of silicone sealant around the window parameter according to approved colour
& location.

5. Application of Sealant
 Clear joints and surfaces from grease, dust or other contaminates by using brush and cloth.
 Application of approved silicone sealant will be done with the help of gun.
 Tooling all sealant surfaces to produce smooth surfaces.
 Droppings and excess sealant will be tooled as work progress and before material sets.
 Sealing of joints will commence prior to painting of surfaces
 Masking tape will be used where necessary to prevent contamination of adjacent surfaces.
 Tape will be removed immediately after completion of joint.

7.0 QUALITY CONTROL:


a) Only approved make to be used for joints & sealants.
b) It should be ensured that all aluminum works are in proper line alignment & proper thickness.
c) Mock up to be done for this activity prior to commencement of chasing activity

8.0 DOCUMENTATION:
a) Approved Drawing.
b) Site log/Register/Checklist

9.0 SAFETY:
a) All supervisory staff in general and Safety supervisor / steward in particular should be
continuously monitoring the activity during operations.
b) Safety supervisor / steward should ensure that Hazard Identification & Risk Analysis (HIRA) is
followed for this particular process.
c) Construction Engineer should ensure that all staff and workers on site are wearing PPE.

d) Construction Engineer / Safety steward should report any incident immediately to Safety Officer
/ Engineer.
