blessing, health and grace so that the author can finish this assignment on time. I do realize

CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

A. The Background of The Implementation of PLK


Education is one of the essential parts in life that need to be taken seriously by the
mankind. According to the law No.20 of 2003, Education is a conscious and planned effort to
realize an environment of learning so that the learners actively develop their potential for
spiritual power, self-control, personality, intelligence, noble moral, and all the skills
necessary for themselves, society, and notion. John Dewey, who was an American
psychologist, philosopher, and educational reformer said that education is an all-time
progression on which our democratic system is built. He believed that education is connected
to society, social life, environment, and experience. Good education quality will be
materialized if all of the academic communities consciously committed to undertake the
education principles.

In educational field, teacher is one of the necessary factors to materialize the goals and the
principles of education. It happens since teacher has important role in educating, guiding,
directing, teaching, training, assessing, and evaluating the learners. Good teacher will
produce qualified environment and experience and good environment and experience will
produce qualified students. Nevertheless, not all teachers can fulfil the good quality of a
teacher as in fact, there are still some teachers who do not work according to the provisions
that have been set.

As this happens, University of Putera Indonesia YPTK Padang conducts a program


namely Educational Field Practice or known as PLK. This program is held to prepare
professional educators/teachers for the future. This academic activity is carried out by the
students in the educational undergraduate program as one of their requirements to finish their
undergraduate. This activity is carried out on the seventh semester with some requirements
need to be fulfilled by the students. For instance, the students must have taken 120 SKS for
PTI and PBI, and 100 SKS for BK. For PBI only, they should get a minimum grade that is B
for Micro Teaching course, and other requirements.

In addition, to enhance the quality of education and the educational skills of a teacher, all
of the academic students are required to have both competence and professional skills in
educational field. PLK is an academic activity in which students learn to have these
competence and professional skills as it is a theoretical and practical activity for the college
students to be able to take an active role in the community environment, especially in the
world of education. This PLK program is designed to meet these qualities of a teacher as they
plunge directly into the educational field. The academic students will implement the
knowledge they have learned during the classes, and it is carried out to increase their
experience, to practice how to teach in the actual school life, to know the real educational
field circumstances, and so on. Thus, this Educational Field Practice Program (PPLK) is held
since it is one of ways to provide an indicator to see how far the students’ active role in
applying the knowledge they have learned in college and to prepare the educational students
to be a professional educator. The more professional the educator, the better quality of
Indonesia’s education will be.

B. The Objective of the Observation Report


The objective of this observation report is to get information about the physical condition,
the school environment, the facilities of the school, the teachers, staffs, and students, as well
as the schedule of teaching and learning process at SMP N 33 Padang. This observation
report is also written to fulfil one of assignments on the PLK course.

C. Time and Location


This observation is held at SMP N 33 Padang. This school is located at Puri Lestari
residential, Parak Laweh, Lubuk Begalung, Padang. The author undertakes the PLK in at
least 4 months, started from 25th July until 15th December.

DISCUSSION

A. The Brief Profile of SMP N 33 Padang


SMP N 33 Padang is one of the middle-secondary education units which is located at
Parak Laweh Pulau Air Nan XX, Lubuk Begalung, Padang city, West Sumatera. In running
its activities, SMP N 33 Padang is under the cope of the education and cultural ministry. The
headmaster of SMP N 33 Padang is Mr. Syafril M, S.Pd and There are 40 teachers and have
more than eight staffs.

a. Teacher-teacher relationship.
The author started PLK on 7 th August of
2023. During the times that have been spent
at the school, The author can conclude that
teachers have a good relationship towards
each other. They have a good
communication and are also unified friends
and colleagues.
b. Teacher-student relationship.
In observing teacher-student relationship,
the author can see that teachers have a good
relationship and good communication with
the students as well. For instance, teachers
do not only educate and teach the students,
but they also guide, direct, train, and

Student-to-student relationship is quite
unified and majority of them care towards
each other as well. They also have a good
communication.
2. Class Most of the classrooms at SMP N 33 Padang
are in good condition. For instance, they have
some fans, the chairs and the tables are
complete and have a good quality. Teachers can
utilize the use of LCD Projector in the
classroom as well.

Both author and tutor have a greement in handling project time in each classes. This
agreement contains that the author and the tutor do a collaboration, which means in certain
days and certain times, these project classess will be handled by tutor and vice versa. This
project time is done at 14.10-14.50 on Tuesday and Wednesday, at 13.40-14.10 on Thursday,
and at 10.40-11.20 on Friday.

game. Siswa membuat lingkaran dan guru akan
meletakkan botol ditengah-tengah siswa untuk diputar.
Guru akan memberikan pernyataan terkait nama hari
dan bulan ke siswa dimana botol tersebut berhenti tepat
kearahnya. Jika siswa tersebut tidak dapat menjawab
soal yang diberikan, soal akan dioper ke yang lain. Lalu
jika soal tersebut dapat dijawab oleh siswa yang lain,
maka siswa yang mendapat soal pertama kali akan

mendapat hukuman berupa dare/challenge dari teman
kelas atau guru sendiri.

CHAPTER 3
CLOSURE

A. Conclusion
To produce a professional teacher, Putra Indonesia YPTK Padang university conducts a
program namely Educational Field Practice (PLK) for educational students along with other
universities in Indonesia. This PLK program has a goal to produce not only a professional
teacher to enhance the quality of Indonesia’s education, but it is also conducted due to the
fact that it is one of the ways for college students to implement the knowledge they have
learned in college life, to increase their experience, to practice how to teach in the actual
school life, to know the real educational field circumstances, and so on.
The author is one of people who conducts PLK as one of her requirements before taking a
thesis. She conducts PLK at SMP N 33 Padang, started from 7 th August until 15th December
2023. This PLK is conducted in the seventh semester. Thus, this observation report is made to
fulfil her assignment on PLK course. In this observation report, the author describes about the
school that she took for doing this PLK, that is known as SMPN 33 Padang. It describes the
profile of the school, the physical condition of the school, the facilities of the school, the
number of teachers, students, and staffs, as well as the schedule of learning and teaching
process at SMP N 33 Padang, and others. It’s important to be written as it gives a clear
information about the school so that we know better about SMP N 33 Padang, and it helps the
reader in seeing the real circumstances of SMP N 33 Padang as well.

B. Suggestion
There are some suggestions need to be reported as we can see as follows:
 Teachers should do a variety of teaching methods, such as by implementing
technology in teaching the students. The teachers should do many activities in
classroom such as game so that students do not just receive the knowledge and then
do the assignment on LKS.
 For library at SMP N 33 Padang, there is one suggestion that the author wants to
deliver, that is change the layout of the room and make it tidier, so the visitors are
comfortable if they want to stay and read a book at the library.
 All parties at SMP N 33 Padang such as teachers, students as well as students’ parents
should collaborate in increasing the discipline in all aspects so that students who do
not obey the rule such as come late to class or go out during the lesson time can be
reduced and decreased. These parties should provide direction as well as guidance to
these students.
 Last but not least, the author is expected that the relationship between University of
Putera Indonesia YPTK Padang and SMP N 33 Padang remain well established.
