The idea of creating or raising value by critical thinking and application has been invigorated in me

during my bachelor's in civil engineering. It has completely assured me about my career option in the
field because, with every social and economic change of history, the significance and power of civil
engineering has always been, and will continue to be, remarkable. This pursuit of mine was
sustained by the time I started reading history books during my childhood years. This field has
fascinated me throughout my childhood and beyond. Thus, as far as my future career was
concerned, I had already decided that I should carry on this enthusiasm for civil engineering and
excel in the same.
The particular field of Civil Engineering I am most interested in is “Construction Project
Management” and this field has gained a lot of prominence in recent years. My keen interest in this
particular field is the main reason why I opted for the advanced course “Construction Technology
and Management” in my final year. During the onset of my undergraduate program, as part of
industrial training, I was involved with the construction project of the OPD for Super Specialty
Hospital that provided me with much-needed practical knowledge. During this training, I gained
practical knowledge of quality control, resource management, and construction practice and
management. Thus, this training helped me get an overview of the aspects of Construction Project
Management, consequently, intensifying my interest and decision to pursue graduate study in this
particular field.
In the final year of my undergraduate study, I undertook a project under the title of “Treatment of
Contaminated Water Using Modified Drawer Compacted Sand Filter” and successfully fabricated a
working model for the filtration of contaminated water. The comprehension of the significance of
proper knowledge regarding project management was instigated in me during the onset of this
project. I realized the significance of the necessary skills and knowledge regarding project
management during the tedious, though simple, process of the project. I also published a
research paper, under the same title for this project. In addition to that, I also delivered a seminar
presentation for the topic “Dimensional Analysis and Hydraulic Similitude” in the final year of my
undergraduate study. I had to profoundly analyse and research the topic, and then I also published a
research paper with my ideas and research for the said topic. I also co-authored another research
paper “Flood Resilient Houses for Flood Prone Kashmir” during my undergraduate course.
At this moment in my academic career, I realize that my undergraduate education has provided me
with only a glimpse of this particular field, and there is a lot yet to be explored and created. In my
drive to acquire critical knowledge and thinking, I have completed several software courses that
have become the primary reason for helping me get the necessary skill and knowledge for a
confident and vigorous hold on Computer-Aided Drawing and Revit Architecture. The plan of action I
will try and implement during my graduate study shall be to stimulate my understanding, that I have
procured so far, in a more specialized way.
I am applying to the UK due to the superb reputation of the institutes, and splendid facilities are also
a significant attraction to me. In my experience as a student, I know good facilities can make a
difference during a student's life and learning experience. The high research output of this
prestigious university entices me to seek admission to this university so that I can further my
background and move on to greater achievements. It’d be a grand privilege to be studying under the
able and well-respected guidance and supervision of Dr. Graeme Bowles. I strongly believe that my
future will get an exceptional direction if I get a chance to complete my masters from the Heriot
Watt University and I’m looking forward to a productive association with such a prestigious
University.
