2. ENTRY nOTICE
Private Candidates are reminded that GCE O'Level examinations are no longer available in Jamaica. The equivalent
secondary level examination offered is the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
Please view the Entry Form to see the list of IGCSE, Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level and A’ Level which are
available to private candidates.
N.B. It is advisable for candidates to work with the syllabus to prepare thoroughly for any examination. Past papers
will be provided to candidates when available.
3. SUBMISSION OF ENTRY
Candidate must submit a completed Entry Form as well as the relevant payment receipt (pink Bank Voucher,
Debit/Credit Card) by Friday, January 19, 2024.
4. CENTRES
Please select a convenient examination area from the options provided on the application form. You will receive
notification of the examination venue when you receive your Statement of Entry (Timetable).
The OEC will contact you if your chosen area is not available. Please ensure you include your email address,
physical address and telephone number on the registration form.
6. OPTIONS
Candidates are reminded that some syllabuses require a choice of option. These syllabus codes are marked with an
asterisk (*) on the application form. It is VERY IMPORTANT that the applicant chooses an option upon
application. This is most important for candidates registering to do Advanced Subsidiary or Advanced Level
subjects as this will tell which papers are to be done as well as the fees that should be paid.
If in doubt, please check the Entry Booklet which is provided at the information desk or seek assistance from our
information desk personnel.
7. FEES
Payments due are to be made at the Bank of Nova Scotia on the pink bank voucher supplied by this office.
NB the bank will only accept cash or manager’s cheque.
Additionally, for your convenience, payments may be made at the OEC by Debit or Credit Card (Mondays –
Thursdays 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. & Fridays 8:30 – 3:00 p.m.).
There is no entry fee applicable for the Cambridge Assessment International Examinations.
8. SUBJECTS
Subjects requiring a practical examination, as a rule, will not be offered. The written alternative may be taken for
IGCSE Level Science subjects. Candidates wishing to take a subject not listed on the entry form may make
enquiries at the Information Desk.

9. ADVANCED LEVEL EXAMINATIONS
There are two examinations at the Advanced level available to students – GCE Cambridge AS / A’ LEVEL and
CXC-CAPE. Candidates should be sure which Examining Body they wish to register for as the syllabuses, in most
cases, are different.
THIS IS A REQUIREMENT OF THE EXAMINATIONS SYNDICATE, AND SO THIS OFFICE WILL NOT BE
HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS WHICH MAY NOT BE CORRECTED BECAUSE OF
A CANDIDATE’S FAILURE TO CHECK.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MASTER (GENERAL) TIMETABLE WILL BE DISPLAYED ON THE OFFICE
NOTICE-BOARD, SO CANDIDATES SHOULD NOTE THE DATES AND TIMES OF THEIR
EXAMINATIONS. THERE IS NO REASON FOR A CANDIDATE TO MISS HIS/HER EXAMINATION
13. KEYTIME
Please note that Cambridge Assessment International Education regulations require that all candidates sitting the
IGCSE, AS’ & A’L examinations should be in the examination room or supervised up to 12:00 noon for the
morning papers and for the afternoon papers up to 4:00 p.m., based on our time zone. This is regarded as
KEYTIME for Jamaica. This is a security measure employed by Cambridge International for its examinations
world-wide. This will result in different start-times for examinations, dependent on their duration, e.g. a paper of 2-
hour duration will start at 10.00 a.m. /2.00 p.m.
14. WITHDRAWAL/REFUND
Candidates should think carefully before registering for examinations as entries are not transferrable across sittings
and withdrawals/refunds will only be entertained if the candidate applies, in writing, within 14 days after the close
of early registration and gives a good reason for his/her request. The Overseas Examinations Commission reserves
the right to accept or deny such a request.
The request for a full refund must be accompanied by the candidate’s portion of the voucher. Additionally, the
OEC Processing Fee of $1100.00 will be deducted for service charge. No Processing Fee is deducted where a
refund results from an OEC error.
Requests made later than the time specified will only be accepted if they result from medical reasons or death. The
appropriate documentation must accompany each request. The Overseas Examinations Commission cannot
determine the level of refund to be made in those cases as that refund is made at the discretion of the Examining
Body.
