FAMILY PRAYER FOR THE FAITHFUL DEPARTED

We hold on to our faith in the Communion of Saints and to our oneness with our beloved dead.
We believe that death does not totally separate our loved ones from us. In physical death life is
changed, not ended….We will set aside time together as a family in our homes and pray for those
who have gone ahead of us. It is a good and holy thought to pray for the dead. It would also be
good if we can share with the family members our recollection about our beloved dead so that
their memory can bind us close to each other. (Pastoral Instruction, “One with Our Beloved Dead.”

SIGN OF THE CROSS

PSALM (130:1-2,3-4,5-6ab,6c,7-8
Response: I hope in the Lord, I trust in his word
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice
Let your ears be attentive, To my voice in supplication. R

If you, O Lord, mark iniquities, Lord who can stand?

But with you is forgiveness, that you may be revered. R

I trust in the Lord; my soul trusts in his word.

My soul waits for the Lord more than the sentinels wait for the dawn. R

More than the sentinels wait for the dawn, let Israel wait for the Lord,
For with the Lord is kindness and with him is plenteous redemption. R

And he will redeem Israel, from all their inequities. R

GOSPEL
(John 6:37-40)
Brothers and sisters, let us listen to the reading from the holy Gospel according to John:

Everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life and I shall raise him on the
last day.
Jesus said to the crowd: “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject
anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven no to my own will but the will of the
one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me that I should not lose anything of
what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father that
everyone who sees the Son and believe in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the
last day.”

All: Our Father who art in heaven, holy be your name; your kingdom come; your will
Be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our
trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil. Amen.

Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and
ever. Amen.
