PNEUMATIC BULK CEMENT AND MUD HANDLING SYSTEM 1, GENERAL ‘There are four (4) bulk storage tanks installed in a forwaré compartment, each of 4,400mm diameter by 4,000mm overall height and having a net capacity of 1500 CUF. Segregated pipe lines are used such that one line is for cement (two tanks) and the other for bulk mud (two tanks), besides any material can be stored in any tank without contamination, ‘Tho system is fitted with remote control and monitoring eqaipment and is controlled from a remote control panel fitted in the wheelho.se, Compressed sir for the system is from two (2) air compressor units complete with sea water cooled air after-coolers each delivers 18.0m*/min. at 5.6kg/cm®* (80 PSI), in addition, two (2) refrigeration air dryers are provided in air supply lines. Bach tank has its own piping system for filling and discharge and its pipe lines are connected with each other in the bulk tank room on the way to deck manifolds located in the mid part of the vessel Bach cargo system, barite, bentonite and cement, has its own piping system to prevent contamination, ‘The system is arranged so that bull material discharge cant be mace from either the port or starboard side at the midships discharge manifolds. ‘The discharge lines and manifolds are also used as filling lines for loading bulk material from ashore or from other vessels. Aft discharge manifolds are also arranged at the port side at the stern part of vessel (One compressor only is normally used to unload material from each tank. When fast discharge is required, particularly for heavier materials, both ‘compressors may be used to discharge a single tank. In the case of one compressor malfunctioning, the other compressor can be used to discharge any tank. Whenever one compressor is used for the discharge of all tanks, the air by-pass valve (cross-over valve) must be always opened Besides, any two storage tanks in different material systems can also be discharged or filled at the same time,UUSLIP° ‘To unload two different materials simultaneously, it is necessary to use ‘two compressors that feed into each common air inlet Ii ‘That is the No.1 compressor is used for either the No.1 or No.2 tanks and the No.2 compressor is for either the No.3 or No.4 tanks (the air by-pass valve must be closed), and for this reason there may be considerable unbalance in the discharge rate due to different specific gravity of each ‘material from the two storage tanks, as the system is basicelly designed for the discharge of only one cargo at a time. Do not attempt to discharge two tanks simultaneously by using only one compressor, as each compressor unit is matched especially for the discharge of single tank. All discharge, external bulk loading, venting and tank cleaning operations fare controlled from the remote control console in the wheelhouse, Indicator lamps on the control panel show if the valve is open or closed, a red lamp for closed position and a green lamp for open positon. In the case of the jet purge air valves, these are capable of variable opening, control and are provided with variable controls and analogue type opening indicators on the control panel. ‘The pressure in the tanks is indicated by pressure gauges on the panel, ‘which allows the operator to monitor the working pressure and control jet purge air supply to the discharge line during discharge of the tanks, Compressors are controlled from the panel by means of stop and start buttons, If compressor should stop automatically because of some alarm condition such as “HIGH AIR TEMPERATURE”, an alarm buzzer will sound at the control panel and the condition causing the automatic stop will be indicated fon the starter panel on the compressor unit. When filling the storage tanks, and when tanks are almos: full indicators showing red lamp "HI-LEVEL" will be lit and buzzer sounded on the panel. This does not show the tank is completely full but the position in which filling line should be purged, as only sufficient capacity remains in the tank to take line's contents, Each tank has a self-cleaning device inside it, so that residue material left in the tank after discharge is reduced to an absolute minimum. ‘This cleaning device is to be used during discharge or after discharge by remote operation ‘Therefore, cleaning procedure is recommended if it is necessary to thoroughly strip the tank of bulk material for survey, or for use for another material on next voyage.OWdshde® ‘The emergency shut-down system is included in the remote control panel and on the main deck. Pressing the emergency stop will stop compressors instantly and all valves will be staying at closed position immediately, except manual valves, and should only be used in emergency situations. ‘The display will indicate “RED LAMP" on the emergency press button and an alarm buzzer will sound.
