Formative and Summative Assessment Methods and Strategies

● Sir Joshua Peñalosa isa a new Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Social
Science teacher, started this school year. His assessment process involves collaborative
activities, quizzes, and seatworks. He also differentiates between assessments (using
tools like Kahoot!, concept mapping, and peer assessment) and evaluation (judging
understanding through recitation). He uses formative and summative assessments,
employing methods like concept mapping during discussions. Sir Peñalosa provides
printed learning materials and discusses them in class, ensuring a comprehensive
teaching approach.

● Most students don't prefer surprise quizzes because the majority of them didn't review
formally. As the teacher observed, they felt pressured and experienced low self-esteem
when taking an exam.

● The teacher has to prefer 3 energizers to boost the energy of students once they are too
silent and no one is responding. It should make everyone feel united and no one is left
behind.

● Learners experience experiential learning through role-playing and think-pair-and-share

activities. This encourages students to promote their communication skills and establish
good relationships.

● Avoid using concept maps in motivational activities, as students in the beginning may
feel pressured to think, which is not ideal.
