Background of the Teachers:


● We have interviewed a non-values education major and a values education graduate from
different local universities. Both have shared similar formative and summative
assessments they apply in their teaching.
● One of the interviewees is a Values Education graduate from Philippine Normal
University.

Importance of each assessments:


● Both teachers emphasized the importance of self-assessment in values education. They
encourage their students to reflect on their personal values, behaviors, and ethical
choices.
● Based on the strategies both the teachers used, they also include writing feedback notes
as a form of formative assessment which effectively assess and guide the students’
learning progress.
● Peer assessment is integrated into group activities and projects. Students evaluate each
other's contributions, teamwork, and alignment with shared values.
● Portfolio assessments are a key part of the evaluation process. Students create portfolios
that showcase their personal growth in values education over the semester.

Aspects in making assessments:


● One of the interviewees told us that she always put in mind the importance of individual
collaborative aspects of the students in every activity. The activity should be based on
the neediness of the lesson whether the lesson needs collaboration or individualism.
● Both teachers use real-world case studies and scenarios to assess students' ability to apply
values-based decision-making in practical situations.

Significance of Assessment and Evaluation


● Both of the teachers have stated that the assessment is their tool to determine the
knowledge of their students. While the evaluation is their way of determing the
effectiveness of the tools they have used and their way of teaching.
