Type-I : Answer the following questions briefly

1. Select question A or B and answer: (10)
A. Write down the general differential equation describing the dynamic response of a second order
measuring instrument and state the expressions relating the static sensitivity, undamped natural
frequency and damping ratio to the parameters in this differential equation. Sketch the
instrument response for the cases of heavy damping, critical damping and light damping, and
state which of these the usual target is when a second order instrument is being designed?
B. What are the statics characteristics of the measuring instrument? List and explain five static
characteristics of instrument.
3. Clearly define what is calibration and the necessity of calibration, and clearly state what
procedures of measurement instrument calibration are? (8)
4. List and explain at least five sensor technology with their application? (10)
