Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this activity, the FS student must be able to achieve the following intended learning outcomes:
1. describe the characteristics, needs and interests of learners in a diverse classroom;
2. determine, understand, and accept the learners’ diverse background;
3. identify best practices in dealing with diversity in the classroom; and
4. value the importance of diversity of learners including differentiated learning strategies, multiple intelligence
and Learners with Special Educational Needs (LSENs) in the inclusive classroom.

LEARNING OVERVIEW:

Activity 3- PPST Domain 3: Diversity of Learners provides the opportunity to understand learners how differences in
gender, racial, cultural, and religious background affects the interaction in school, learn about the practices and strategies that
teachers use in dealing with diversity in classroom.

Write your Narrative Report on Domain 3 Diversity of Learners

Discussion/Lecture

Domain 3 highlights the central role played by educators in creating learning environments that are responsive
to different learning styles. This domain emphasizes the significance of teachers' knowledge and
understanding of, as well as regard for, learners' diverse characteristics and experiences as inputs to the
planning and design of learning experiences. Teachers are essential in the teaching process because they create
and deliver lessons. It is critical to recognize that different types of learners have different needs, and that
different methods must be used in lesson planning and delivery to ensure that such needs are met. The
educational world has gradually adopted the strategy of "Every child matter," which requires that all students
with special needs be counted. Students have various needs and may require extra assistance to succeed in
school. One solution is to create a more diverse classroom with a teacher who can recognize and meet the
needs of a diverse group of students. It is also important to consider what learning outcomes are for each
student as well as what aspects of learning they may need support in the classroom environment when creating
a classroom environment that meets the needs of all students. There is also a need for equal opportunities and
inclusion of all learners. It is necessary to have a resourceful teacher who can provide students with different
ways to communicate as well as different ways to learn in order to have an inclusive classroom. Furthermore,
in order to accommodate diverse learners, the teacher must be able to identify students who are at risk or
vulnerable in the classroom.

Activity 3– Distinctness of a Learner
FIELD STUDY 1
in a Diverse Classroom

Read the following carefully before you begin to observe a class. Write your observation report on the space
provided.

1. How much interaction is there in the classroom? Describe how the students interact with one another
and with the teacher. Are there groups that interact more with the teacher than others?

There is interaction in the classroom. Students were helping each other. They explain and
share knowledge with one another. They also consider sharing information and answer to
each other.

2.Observe the learner’s behavior during the conduct of the class. How do they behave and interact
differently?

The majority of the students were silently listening to their teacher, as we noticed. Some of
the students really aren't listening carefully. Some students are creating notes about the
discussion.

3. Describe the relationship among the learners. Do the learners cooperate with or compete against each
other?
4

Learners assisted one another. They also take part in the teacher's discussion rather than

competing with each other.

4. Who among the students participated actively? Who among them asked most for help?

The majority of the learners took part actively. Most of them asked for help and are

helping one another.

5. When a learner is called and cannot answer the teacher’s question, do the classmates try to help him?
Or do they raise hand, so that the teacher will call them instead?
5
Whenever a student is called and isn't able to answer the teacher's queries, his or her
classmates try to help rather than compete.

Analyze

Answer the following questions:

Identify the person who play the key roles in the relationships and interactions in a virtual
classroom. What roles do they play? Is there somebody who appears to be the leader, a
mascot/joker, an attention seeker, a little teacher, a doubter/ pessimist?

Some students are leaders. The entire class was focused on the teacher's topic. They continue
to move around the classroom with no one drawing attention to themselves. I didn't observe
jokers because they tend to focus on the discussion and experiment.

How does the teacher influence the class interaction considering the individual differences of the
students in a classroom?
The teacher influenced student engagement by understanding and taking into account the
students' individual differences. She doesn't really tolerate discriminatory practices and
engaged in a private conversation with the special needs students. The teacher can
influence conversations by acting as a role model for her students.

Reflect
6

1. How did you feel as you observed in the classroom? Did you feel a sense of oneness
or unity among the learners, and between the teacher and the learners?

Cooperation exists between students and also between the student and the teacher.
Students help one another and partake in activities designated to them by their teacher.

2. In the future, how would you want the learners in your classroom to interact? How
will you, make it happen?

I want students to engage actively. I want them to help one another and gain
knowledge. I'd like to encourage companionship and unity among them. To
accomplish this, I must be a patient, understanding, and approachable teacher to
them. I want my students to be able to freely express themselves in the future.

Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of this activity, the FS student must be able to achieve the following intended learning outcomes:
a) differentiate the characteristics and needs of learners from different development levels; and
b) choose effective strategies to address the diverse needs of the learners according to their developmental levels.

LEARNING OVERVIEW:
Activity3- PPST Domain 3: Diversity of Learners provides the opportunity to observe learners of different ages and grade
levels virtually. It highlights the differences in their characteristics and needs. As a future educator, it is important to determine
learners’ characteristics and needs so that you will be able the implement learning activities and assessment that are all
developmentally appropriate.

Observation/Interview

Read the following carefully before you begin with this then write your observation report on the space provided.

1. Record the data you gathered about the learners’ characteristics and needs in this matrix.
2. Shadow a learner from preschool, elementary and high school during the conduct of their class.
3. This will allow you to compare the characteristics and needs of learners at different levels. The items under
each domain are by no means exhaustive. These are sample indicators you may add other aspects which
you may have observed.

Reflect

1. While you were observing the learners, did you recall your experiences when you were at their age? What
similarities or differences do you have with the learners you observed?

I recall my own experiences when I was in their age as I observe the students. It is equal
because, as I previously observed, students are intelligent and actively participate in
class. I remember going to compete and winning tournaments.

2. Think of a teacher you cannot forget for positive or negative reasons. How did she/he or not help you with your
needs (physical, emotional, social, and cognitive)? How did it affect you?

-My 12th grade teacher is excellent at instructing, communicating relevant information, and
motivating us to study hard. She also inspires us by giving us the grades we deserve and
keeping our records open. As a result, we are motivated to work hard and smartly in class in
order to achieve our goal, in the end our whole class graduated with flying colors.
