Preliminary notes:
• If you are an Italian citizen and you achieved an international High School Diploma, your title
allows you to continue your studies in Italian Universities only if it has been awarded on the basis
of at least the last two years of attendance, with a positive result, in the foreign education system.
• For recognition of qualification awarded either by foreign schools in Italy or Italian Schools
abroad please check CIMEA’s publication n. 135. If you hold a final qualification of Secondary
School Institutions of the Republic of San Marino, please read the Attachment 2 of the Ministerial
regulations.
• If you hold a secondary education qualification obtained in a country with 11 years of schooling
and you wish to apply to a Bachelor’s Degree Programme, please check compensative measures in
Annex 1 of the Ministerial Circular or apply for Sapienza Foundation Year.
• REGARDING TRANSNATIONAL EDUCATION (TNE): TNE Programmes belong to the higher
education system of a country different from the one where they are offered. In such cases the
institutions have to be accredited/recognized in the education system both of the country where
they are sited and of the one of belonging. In particular, if applicants submit a foreign
qualification obtained after studies mainly carried out in Italy, the recognition, even partial, of
this qualification is subject to the accreditation procedure of the institution operating in Italy, as
established by Decree n. 214 of April 26 2004, in implementation of Article VI.5 of the Lisbon
Convention.

Additional information: the Pre-University year

was removed with an education reform that
increased secondary education from 11 to 12 years.
