Problem 1
Using (i) a right triangular plot and (ii) an equilateral triangular plot, solve the following problem graphically.

The following mixtures are completely mixed to form mixture D:

Mixture Mass (kg) % NaCl % KCl % H2 O

A 50 50 50 0
B 100 20 0 80
C 75 0 40 60

1. Adding first mixtures A and B to yield the resultant mixture F. Then, add mixture F to mixture C to locate mixture
D.
2. If 25 kg of H2O was removed from mixture D to produce mixture E, locate E and determine its composition.

Answer:
E(xNaCl, xHCl, xH2O) = (22.5%, 27.5%, 50%)

Problem 2
Using (i) a right triangular plot and (ii) an equilateral triangular plot, solve the following problem graphically.

Redo Problem 1 by adding first mixtures A and C to form mixture G. Remove 25 kg of H 2O from mixture B to form mixture
H. Add mixtures G and H to yield the same mixture E referred to in Problem 1.

Mixture Mass (kg) % NaCl % KCl % H2 O

A 50 50 50 0
B 100 20 0 80
C 75 0 40 60

Answer:
E(xNaCl, xHCl, xH2O) = (22.5%, 27.5%, 50%)
