About the Institution...
Lingaraj College, founded in 1933 was the first collegiate institution
of the K.L.E. Society, Belagavi. Today, it is a rare blend of heritage
and modernity with which it ranks as a Centre of Excellence
acknowledging this inherent quality.
The NAAC Re-accredited the College (IV Cycle) at the 'A' level in
the year 2022. With the renovated digital classrooms, a multimedia
Hi-Tech language laboratory, an automated library with a wide
collection of books and journals on its shelves, the college is an
obvious choice of aspirants in UG and PG programmes.

It is a matter of pride and pleasure that Lingaraj College is conferred


with Autonomous status from June 2007 by the University Grants
Commission, New Delhi, The Government of Karnataka and The
Karnataka University, Dharwad.
With newly acquired academic and operative freedom, Lingaraj
College is now offering programs of higher standard and has
redesigned the syllabus according to the changes in the employment
market.

The UGC has extended The Autonomous status to the college upto
2025-26.
With a sprawling campus spread over an area of 25 acres houses the
main building built in an elegant Roman Structure and a landscape
garden in an area of 1315 sq.mts. which adds luster and greenery to
the campus. Thus ,guided by its vision and mission,the college strives
for excellence in all fields.
About the Department...
All through the history of KLE Society's Lingaraj College, the
Department of English has been a significant part of the Institution.
Established in the year 1933, it stands as a testament to the enduring
might of language and the boundless realm of literary excellence.

Over the years, the department has been graced by renowned scholars
and accomplished individuals as part of its faculty.
Stalwarts like Prof. Srinivasa Iyengar, Prof. A.K. Ramanujan, and Prof.
Sumateendra Nadig were once part of it.

Guided by its vision and mission the Department of English provides a


comprehensive education in English language and literature, thus
revising its curriculum to encompass a diverse range of literary
traditions, genres, and linguistic nuances.
In adapting to modernity, it embraces interdisciplinary collaborations
that encourage students to explore intersections between literature,
technology, media, cultural studies, and other relevant fields.

Within the department walls, the study of English transcends mere


syntax and grammar, evolving into a captivating exploration of human
thought, emotion, and the myriad nuances that define our existence. The
dedicated faculty, renowned for their erudition and pedagogical
prowess, ignite the flames of curiosity, nurturing the minds of eager
learners and propelling them towards intellectual enlightenment.

As time marches on, the Department of English remains a beacon of


inspiration, an oasis where the alchemy of language transforms ordinary
individuals into seekers of truth and champions of expression.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

Themes:

1. Art and Culture.


2.Movies and Music.
3.Language and Literature.

The competition consists of three rounds:

Round 1: Spell the spelling.


Round 2: Error identification.
Round 3: Mispronunciation with a twist.
General Rules:

1. The participant must be a college or university


student.

2. Participants may ask for the definition of the


word.

3. If the speller is sure that he/she understands


the word, he/she must pronounce the word
before and after spelling it.

4. The judge determines whether or not the word


was spelt correctly.

5. Participants who achieve the highest score


will be eligible to proceed to the next rounds.

6. In every round participants will undergo all


three learning levels (elementary, intermediate
and advanced) randomly.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

TWO PARTICIPANTS IN ONE TEAM.


Round 1: Multiple choice madness.
Participants will be given 20 minutes to
answer 30 Multiple choice questions.

Round 2: Audio/visual action:


10 questions with a visual or audio clue. 30
seconds for each question.

Round 3: Rapid Fire.


Each team will be asked a series of
questions in the duration of 1 minute. The
team with the highest number of correct
answers wins.

Scoring: 1 point for each correct answer.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. Performance has to be done in the


preferred language of the participants.
(English,Hindi,Kannada, Marathi)
2. Themes of the performance must be
based on Literature.
3. Number of actors (min:5 and Max:8)
4. The time limit is 7 to 15 mins.
5. Costume and music is encouraged.

6. Background music (if applicable) should


be carried in personal pendrive and must
be submitted during the registration.
7. Submission of the name and script is
mandatory prior to the performance.
8. The teams will be allowed a maximum of 2
minutes to prepare the stage.

9. The Competition will be judged on the basis


of the script, facial expressions, and creative
use of props, stage mannerism, co-ordination,
voice modulation and overall performance.
10. No use of slangs and un-parliamentary
language in the skit.

11. The Props will be arranged by the teams


themselves (General furniture like table/chairs
will be made available at event venue).
12. Participants have to adhere to the rules.

13. The decision of the judge will be final.

• Participants will be given table
topics (extempore) to speak for 1
minute.
• General topics in relation to
language and literature can be
expected.

ROUND 2
• Selected teams will be informed
about the topic post round 1.
Other instructions will be
conveyed at the onset of event.
RULES AND REGULATIONS

1.Each team will consist of 2 members.


2.Each team will be allotted 5 minutes in
total. 1 minute each for introducing your
topic, 2 minutes for presenting your
argument, 2 minutes to conclude.

3.Speaking over/interrupting your


competitors is not allowed.
4.Maximum number of teams per college: 1
5.Any offending statements presented by the
participants on religion, gender, personal
allegations.

6.Using of Offensive language during the


contest will lead to disqualification of the
participants at any stage.

RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Each solo poem must be of poets
own creation.
2. Each poet gets 4 min
(+1 grace period to perform).

3. The poem/ performance will loose 5


Marks for performing over mentioned
time period.
4. Poems can be of any theme as per
liking of the poet.

5. Poems/performances are allowed to


be only in English language.
6. Use of props is allowed.

7. Use of offensive language/theme is


not allowed.

• Open for all the streams (PUC, UG & PG).
• Maximum of 2 teams is accepted from each
college.
• Participants can only participate in one
event at a time to avoid time clash.
• Transportation will not be provided.
• Participants are responsible for their own
valuables.
• To compete for the General Championship
the college team should participate in all the
events.
• Participation fees is 50 rupees per person,
any event.
• College Uniforms are not allowed during the
fest.
