Workshop on Creative Writing: Story Development

Patiala organizes a Workshop on ‘Creative Writing’

P.G. Department of English, Cultural Studies and Foreign Languages of General Shivdev

Singh Gurbachan Singh Khalsa College Patiala organized one day workshop on ‘Creative

Writing (Story Development)’ on 9 February, 2023. Students from different departments

participated in the workshop that focused on creative writing skills.

Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Principal of the college appreciated the efforts made by the

faculty members of English Department and stressed upon the significance of such workshops in

polishing the creativity skills of students. He encouraged the students to participate zealously in

such activities so as to develop their talent of sorts.

Dr. Amanpreet Kaur and Prof.Harmanpreet Kaur showed a PPT to students in which

various aspects of creative writing were covered. The meaning of narrative writing was

elucidated and various components of short story were explained. After this, the students were

given an example of how to develop story from a picture that was shown to them. Three pictures
were then shown to them and they were given a choice to write a story on any one in one hour.

About 46 students wrote the story from a total of 63 participants. All the students were given

prizes and certificates.

Prof Jaspreet Kaur, Head of the Department and Dean Languages, applauded the efforts

made by convener and teachers in charge of English Literary Society in organizing this

workshop. She also said that such events are helpful in enhancing the various skills of students

associated with creative writing, a faculty which is losing its users due to the onslaught of

technology and mechanical lifestyle .

Dr. Rouble Brar, Convener, English Literary Society extended a warm welcome to the

Principal, other staff members and students. She appreciated the overwhelming response of

students in this event and shared some tips to make an effective and interesting story. She also

emphasized upon the significant role of various components in making a story meaningful and

appealing.
