Topic: Which is more important in the workplace: emotional intelligence

or intellectual intelligence?

There are some debates about the importance of emotional intelligence and
intellectual when it comes to the workplace. In this essay, I will elaborate on the
values of two kinds of intelligence and state my opinion.

On the one hand, studies show that there is a correlation between people with
high EI and positive workplace performance. Firstly, EI increases one’s ability
to make effective decisions. To be more specific, EI gives a person insight into
his feelings, strengths, weaknesses, and values, which helps him make wise
choices for himself. Moreover, EI can help people build and sustain
collaborative relationships. Not only does EI enable individuals to deal with their
own emotions, but it also gives them the ability to perceive, understand, and
manage others’ feelings. Therefore, cooperation among colleagues with high EI
is more likely to go smoothly, which contributes to the progress and results of
the project that they are running.

On the other hand, it is undeniable that intelligence quotient should be taken

into consideration. A project will never be successful when it only lies on paper
or in workers’ minds. Instead, it needs to be developed with proper steps. In this
case, critical thinking skills are a must, as they help people come up with unique
ideas for the plan. Furthermore, IQ can play an important role when the project
is carried out since it provides workers with problem-solving skills, which will
come in handy when there are unexpected issues occurring during the
operation.

All in all, both emotional intelligence and intellectual intelligence have their own
benefits. People should not adopt a biased attitude towards one kind of
intelligence when they are at work.
