Which is more important in the workplace: emotional intelligence or intellectual intelligence?


It is true that intellectual and emotional intelligence, known as IQ and EQ respectively, play an
important role in the working ambiance. This essay will discuss the equality among the
significance of both mentioned items.
Intellectual intelligence (IQ) and emotional intelligence (EQ) are both important qualities for
success in the workplace. IQ is the ability to understand and process information, while EQ is the
ability to understand and manage one's own emotions and the emotions of others.
In terms of Intellectual Intelligence (IQ), there are several benefits accrued from the quality of
IQ. Firstly, people who have high IQ tend to propose many creative suggestions for problem-
solving. Take employees as an illustration, as they encounter complex situations related to their
work such as mathematic calculations, logarithms, they occasionally come up with innovative
solutions to crack the problem and make informed decisions in their difficulty. Another
advantage is that intellectual intelligence assist individuals in successfully effective
communication. When employees have a meeting with their clients or potentially cooperative
counterparts, possessing high quality of IQ ensure that they can articulate messages or
information comprehensively and more convincingly to draw the attention of other parties.
Regarding emotional intelligence (EQ), it also has numerous advantages in the workplace. The
first one is that individuals having high EQ can understand and manage their emotions
effectively. They can even gain a deep insight into their colleagues and their manager and
empathize with other people. As a result, this is contributed to the fact that they can solve
many conflicts in their teams and be adept at teamwork as well as interaction to get more
effective productivity. Secondly, emotional intelligence can be a main quality to maintain
relationships. For instance, employees can meet the requirements of their customers and
respond to them accurately and satisfactorily because they have a detailed understanding of
clients’ psychology. Therefore, this increases customers’ loyalty and their content.
In conclusion, both intellectual and emotional intelligence are equivalently crucial for
individuals to stimulate the development of their soft skills and promoted opportunity in their
jobs.
