Interfering with an opponent

• preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly
obstructing the opponent’s line of vision

• challenging an opponent for the ball

• clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an
opponent

• making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to


play the ball
Challenging an opponent for the ball

• For challenging we should take in consideration:

– The distance between attacker and defender ?

– The ball ?

– Time ?

– Obvious action ?

– Movement to the opponent or the ball ?


Question:

• Is there any difference between run to the ball or waiting for the ball?
Challenging an opponent for the ball

– The player in offside position runs to the ball with one opponent very close

– The player is in the back of the opponent, clearly moving to challenge the
ball

– The player runs to the ball and has physical contact with the opponent

– The player in offside position runs/moves to other direction to show everyone


he doesn’t want to participate in the action
