Tassometer model VW TASS

APPLICATIONS
The vertical displacement is related
This sensor can measure the vertical deformation (settlement) of soil and their to the pressure by the fundamental
changes over time, to: law of hydrostatic :
 Follow the evolution of the soil consolidation by measuring the settlement, P=ρxgxh
 Check the risk of fractures which may be associated to a too quick
settlement, Where P is pressure in Pascal (Pa),
 Adjust the work accordingly. ρ is the density of water (kg.m-3 ), g
is the constant of the gravitational
Generally, structures such as embankments, dykes and dams require control of acceleration (ms-²) and h the
settlement (during implementation and after), compaction is scalable over time. This height of the column water meter
sensor can also monitor compaction slabs or rafts on soil poses little stable. (m).
The settlement of such sensors mainly concerns compressible soils. It’s important in
this case to measure the soil compaction foundation in absolute value, to determine So we have the relationship h = P /
the percentage of consolidation achieved at a given instant. It is in such conditions (ρ × g). The relative measure of
that tassometer is of interest because it measures only the settlement of a foundation compaction is expressed by the
independent of that of the upper embankment, measured elsewhere. It’s also used as relation
a leveling pot on a retaining wall.
∆h = h0 – h1 = (P0 – P1)/(ρ x g).
It is why the company Canal de Provence (CSCP) has developed this new tassometer
which has the advantage of not creating singular point on the structure and provide P = k (F1 – F0)
automatic and continuous measurements.
With :
MEASURE PRINCIPLE & SENSOR k calibration coefficient
F0 frequency at installation
F1 frequency at « t » time

Measuring range 0-30m

Accuracy 0,001m

ADVANTAGES
Temperature measured and
therefore corrected (no thermal
expansion problems as the rods
with mechanical systems).

Embedded system (no discomfort to

the stage of completion). Saving
measures in continue.
Ability to create a profile with
several points. Opportunity to be
completely autonomous (solar panel
and GSM modem)

DESCRIPTION
The sensor consists of a sensitive element that is embedded in the soil and a self-
compensating hydraulic system. The embedded portion follows the movement of the
ground. The use of a sensitive element vibrating wire dual coil gives the instrument a
high accuracy and recognized longevity. Another advantage is that use of such a
product gives the system a measurement range high of up to several tens of meters.
