Automatic Identification System (AIS)

SUBJECT: ICT DATE: 09/28/22

A form of navigation system that

aids in precisely determining a ship's
position and other navigational data is
AIS. It enables a variety of functions
by using VHF radio channels as
transmitters and receivers to broadcast
and receive signals between ships.
All passenger and commercial ships
with a gross tonnage of over 299 that
are traveling in international traffic are
required by the International Maritime
Organization (IMO) to be equipped
with an AIS class A transponder.

Electronic Chart Display Information System

SUBJECT: ICT DATE: 09/28/22

The navigation chart

system used on ships has
evolved into ECDIS. The
crew of the ship was able to
detect its location and
maneuver more easily than
before thanks to the
introduction of electronic
navigation technology.

Echo Sounder

SUBJECT: ICT DATE: 09/28/22

The echo sounder is one of many

contemporary shipborne navigational
equipment, and it has been in use for
about a century. Sound waves, which
operate on the idea of sound wave
transmission, and a sound pulse that
bounces off a reflective layer and
returns as an echo to the source are
used to detect the depth of water
beneath the bottom of a ship.

Speed & Distance Log Device

SUBJECT: ICT DATE: 09/28/22

This ship's bridge

equipment is used to gauge
the ship's speed and distance
from a specific location. The
ship's ETA is modified or
sent to the port authority and
agent using the same
calculation.

Automatic Tracking Aid

SUBJECT: ICT DATE: 09/28/22

The automatic tracking

system, like ARPA, shows data
about tracked targets in graphical
and numerical form to help plan
a safer trajectory without
collisions. Large targets with a
circle of 800 meters or more are
often regarded as being on land
and are not tracked. Targets to be
tracked are echoes that are fewer
than 800 meters away.

There are many navigational tools and
equipment on the bridge plan. One of the
most useful navigation aids on a bridge is
autopilot, which holds the ship's steering
in autopilot mode while the human
operator concentrates on the big picture
of the operation. It combines hydraulic,
mechanical, and electrical systems and is
utilized to remotely operate the ship's
steering system (navigational bridge).

Magnetic Compass

SUBJECT: ICT DATE: 09/28/22

The principal method of

determining direction is the magnetic
compass, which functions in tandem
with the earth's magnetic field. It is
utilized to obtain the intended itinerary
of the voyage. On Monkey Island, the
navigational equipment for this ship is
often mounted along the centerline of
the ship. The transmitting compass of
the magnetic type is positioned such
that the output signal may be seen on
the bridge panel.
S-band and X-band radar systems are
used by marine vessels to navigate
because they can identify targets and
show information on the screen about
the ship's position relative to the ground,
any floating objects (such as islands,
rocks, icebergs, etc.), other ships, and
potential obstacles to avoid collisions. It
detects the environment around the ship
using a revolving antenna.

RADAR

It is employed to determine the proper
course. The gyrocompass is not affected
by an outside magnetic field, unlike a
magnetic compass. In order to offer a
reliable directional source, it is utilized to
locate the true north point, which is also
the Earth's axis of rotation. For
emergency steering, its repeater system
needs to be mounted on the steering
platform.
