When François Boch founded a small ceramics business in Audun-le-Tiche in Lorraine in 1748,
he could scarcely have imagined that his company would one day help to shape European
cultural and industrial history. Since then, the company has not only influenced tableware,
bathroom and living styles but also developed significant products and production processes
and, in addition, helped to democratise hygiene. The Villeroy and Boch families continue today
to work actively for the company, which has become an international complete supplier of
everything needed in the bathroom.

used in international projects, the Villeroy & Boch laboratory carries out flushing tests in
compliance with national building regulations for all kinds of objects – from golf balls to
sawdust and pages from Australian telephone directories. The testing is not complete until
the design and flushing complies with national standards, saving time and ensuring in this way
that architects can plan with confidence.

for a young target group
Located close to world-famous sights like the Forbidden City or Tiananmen Square, the
W Beijing Chang’an Hotel is hip, loud, colourful and high quality. The 349-room designer hotel
by the international architects RTKL is coupled with an original and striking interior from
AB Concept from Hong Kong to produce a dynamic overall concept combining design, art
and music for its trend-loving guests. The hotel is remarkable for its spectacular installa-
tions, lively colours, unusual materials and the dynamic lighting concept. The public toilets
also have high-grade surfaces, coloured marble, refined mirror effects and modern sanitary
ceramics from the Architectura, Subway and Loop & Friends collections.

The restoration, renovation and
innovation of a 21st century hotel
Located in the heart of Paris’ 16th arrondissement, the 200-room Peninsula Paris blends tradition
with innovation by restoring and preserving an historic building while offering the modern
facilities of a 21st century hotel. The interiors were designed by The Peninsula’s in-house
team in cooperation with Henry Leung of Hong Kong-based Chhada Siembieda Leung Ltd.
And the architectural restoration was headed by Richard Martinet of Affine Design. The
meticulous restoration also included the involvement of France’s leading master craftsmen. In
the guestrooms, soft grey and cream hues inspired by Parisian fashion heritage blend with the
marble bathrooms, modern ceramic fittings from Villeroy & Boch and high-tech elements
including bedside tables and writing desks.

Faralda NDSM Crane Hotel,

Industrial monument with wellness area
The Faralda NDSM Crane Hotel in Amsterdam is as unusual as a hotel can be. The listed crane
in the former shipyard was innovatively restored on the basis of an idea by the owner and
project designer Edwin Kornmann Rudi in co-operation with IAA Architecten in Amsterdam
and the engineers from VDNDP bouwingenieurs and now houses three luxury suites. The
elegant designer bathrooms are put together from different Villeroy & Boch bathroom

collections. On the upper terrace there is even a SportX-Line hot tub – all at the dizzying height
of 35 to 45 metres.

Bourgeois elegance with diverse

The Classicist building with listed façade built in 1860 has a chequered history and has
undergone many structural modifications. Originally the residence in the centre of Budapest
of the celebrated Hungarian architect József Hild, it was used for a variety of purposes before
the hotelier Mazen Al Ramahi converted it in 2015 into a luxury four-star hotel. The professional
team of architects and interior designers have been able to effectively combine modern style
elements with those of the era of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It has a delightfully old-
fashioned touch, transporting the splendour of the past into the world of a bustling modern
city. This charm is also reflected in the high-quality bathrooms in the eighty-five rooms of
different categories. Plain sanitary ceramics from the Villeroy & Boch Architectura collection
combine modernity and elegance, material and ornamentation to produce a discreet and

Seven Stars Galleria by Massimo Magaldi Architetto is renowned as the world’s first seven
star hotel. Nearly all of the hotel’s modern guestrooms and suites offer direct internal views
of the Galleria’s delicate frescoes and stunning mosaic floors. The architect’s understated
selection of colours, materials, fittings and furniture was the perfect way to express the
spirituality of being in this historic place. In particular, minimalist washbasins from the
Loop & Friends collection and an Aveo New Generation freestanding bath in the bathroom
and wellness areas provide an aesthetic of luxury and refined elegance.

Deluxe worlds in a historical setting
For over a century the KaDeWe in Berlin has been one of the most well-known department
stores in the world, offering its customers a breathtaking array of products. The store is
continuously reinventing itself and adapting to changing times. The architecture and interior
have been modified to fit in with the demands of the different eras. It is not only the products
on sale that are select and luxurious. All of the public customer areas are stylishly designed
with high-quality fittings. While the store was being modernised, the customer toilets were
refitted by architect Udo Landgraf and engineers Trache IBT with sanitary ware products from
the Aveo and Loop & Friends collections from Villeroy & Boch.

Sanitary concept for 12,000 people
One of the challenges in the planning of sites for large events is to integrate innovative
architecture in order to attract tourists and to turn the site into a prestige object for the city or
sports club concerned. One example is the Bolshoy Ice Dome in Sochi which was designed by
the Mostovik architect’s office for the 2014 Winter Olympics. Of even greater importance in
stadiums is an optimised infrastructure and reliable supply system. This includes service
functions like public toilets. Around 1,000 sanitary ware products from the O.novo, Subway
and Omnia collections from Villeroy & Boch were used in the Bolshoy Ice Dome.
