3.0 Operational

i. Organization Chart
The organization chart of the housekeeping department can be separated into three scales it is
small, medium, or large hotel that depicted in the organization chart.
An organization chart is a schematic diagram of the relationships between positions within an
establishment, showing which position fits into the overall organization and explaining the division of
responsibility and lines of authority.
The housekeeping department in a hotel is headed by the executive housekeeper. He or she
informs the General Manager, or the Resident Manager, or Room Division Manager in a large hotel.
Take the hotel chain as an example, the executive housekeeper also reports
to the director of housekeeping, who is in charge of all housekeeping departments in this hotel chain.
The deputy housekeeper assists the executive housekeeping and depending on the size of the property,
there can also be assistant housekeepers who look at the various areas of responsibility in the hotel,
that is, floors, public areas, the linen room, and desk control.

Organization chart of a housekeeping department in a large hotel.

11
(ii) Responsibilities of each housekeeping personnel

Housekeeping staff have diverse responsibilities that vary depending on the type of facility they
work in, such as hotels, hospitals, offices, or residential properties. Their primary duties involve
maintaining cleanliness and order in assigned areas, including rooms, hallways, lobbies, and
restrooms. Tasks include dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and ensuring a sanitary
environment.

In addition to cleaning, housekeeping personnel are responsible for tasks such as bed making,
managing linens, and handling trash removal. They support maintenance efforts by reporting issues
and collaborating with maintenance staff to address cleaning-related concerns. Restocking supplies,
providing customer service, and adhering to established policies and procedures are integral aspects
of their roles.

Housekeeping staff also contribute to team collaboration, working together to ensure efficient and
thorough cleaning operations. They may engage in specialized cleaning tasks, such as carpet cleaning
or window washing, and participate in training sessions to stay informed about industry best
practices. Housekeeping personnel need to be aware of and follow safety guidelines, security
protocols, and privacy policies, especially in settings like hotels or healthcare facilities. Overall, their
role is crucial in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for guests or occupants.

(iii) Interaction between the housekeeping department and other departments

All the depicted in the below is the interaction with housekeeping. For example, it is the front office,
engineering, food, and beverage, sales and marketing, and security departments. This is because these
five departments are important to running the housekeeping activities and making sure the hotel can
be a smooth operation. Last but not least a hotel that doesn’t have a department below the hotel will
make it difficult to run the housekeeping activities.
 Interaction with the housekeeping and front departments
The main focus for each department is the management of guest rooms. Effective communication
about the room status is crucial to ensure that check-out rooms are promptly prepared for occupancy.
Moreover, low occupancy periods present opportunities for supplement, maintenance, and decoration
Furthermore, the housekeeping department should promptly report any atypical guest behavior
that could potentially result in loss of revenue or a negative reputation for the hotel to the front office.
 Interaction with the housekeeping and sales marketing departments
The sales and marketing department relies heavily on the housekeeping department for the timely
delivery of goods and services as promised. Often encountered in large hotels. Other than that, is to
ensure continuity of meetings and group issues, which creates challenges for the front office, sales
marketing, and housekeeping. All three departments must work together to make sure that guest is
prepared and maintained to the highest standards, especially during busy periods.
 Interaction with the housekeeping and security departments
The security team is responsible for maintaining the security of the hotel premises through regular
patrols, ensuring the safe of the guests, monitoring surveillance equipment, visitors, and employees
In addition, housekeeping staff who work in various areas of the hotel can make a significant
contribution to the hotel’s security measures. For example, when cleaning the guest rooms, attendants
can help lock doors and windows to increase guest safety.
 Interaction with the housekeeping and food beverage
There is a symbiotic relationship between housekeeping and food and beverage, which mainly
revolves around the provision of table linens and uniforms. since business volumes can fluctuate
significantly, the banquet department must keep housekeeping informed of its requirements.
Additionally, primary training is a strong relationship between housekeeping and guest service is
critical to prompt and efficient housekeeping.

12
 Interaction the housekeeping and engineering.
housekeeping staff play a vital role in ensuring that minor repairs requested by the engineering
department are promptly requested to prevent more serious failures. Working collaboratively, they
effectively perform preventive maintenance and renovations that impact guests.
Besides that, the engineering department hopes that housekeeping department staff will save water
and electricity in daily operations.

(iv). The SDG 7

- The Datai Langkawi needs to ensure that they are accessible for affordable, reliable,
sustainable, and modern energy for the guests. So, they applied SDG 7, as known as,
affordable and clean energy. This can include:
- Renewable Energy Sources

Implementing and promoting the use of renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind
power, to reduce the environmental aftermath.

- Energy Efficiency

Applying energy-efficient technologies and practices to minimize energy consumption in

buildings, facilities, and operations.

- Waste-to-Energy

Exploring innovative solutions to convert waste into energy, contributing to a more

sustainable and circular approach.

- Educational Initiatives

Raising awareness among customers and staff about responsible energy consumption and
encouraging sustainable behaviours.

- Carbon Neutrality

Aiming towards carbon neutrality by offsetting carbon emissions through investments in

carbon reduction projects.

- Smart Technologies

Employing smart technologies for energy management, such as automated systems for
lighting, heating, and cooling, to optimize energy efficiency.

- Collaboration

Collaborating with local communities and stakeholders to implement sustainable energy

solutions that benefit both the resort and the surrounding areas.

By carrying out these practices, resorts can contribute to the global efforts outlined in SDG7 while
also strengthening their environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability.

13
4.0 The physical and operational problem
Here are some of the good ratings from YouTube:
-This is the best resort in the Whole Wide World especially for someone who appreciates Nature,
peace, great food, and the best service delivered by the most service-minded and friendly staff who
have been working there for years and years.

-The Rainforest Villa which was superb with an outdoor balcony, day bed, and chairs. Nice touches
like inclusive soft drinks minibar. The food was excellent as was the service. Any problem was fixed
in a jiffy. The staff are attentive and have warm hospitality.

- had a balcony that looked into the forest and we were visited by monkeys, large black
squirrels, and a huge variety of birds and butterflies. The pristine beach with lots of sun
loungers that could be shielded from the sun by trees. The food was splendid starting with the
breakfast. There was a range of restaurants offering Thai, Malaysian, European, and seafood.
The staff were all very friendly, warm, and helpful, and were always ready for a chat.

Besides the good ratings, there are also some bad ratings for the physical and operational
problems.

Here are some bad ratings from Google Maps:

- The guest drove for an hour from Kuah town to check out the hotel for a possible stay but was
prevented by the guard at the entrance. No entry without booking and must be an online booking,
according to the guard. The staff could not make a decision and had to refer to the general manager
who was not available.

- The prices are too high. They have a golf club. But it is chargeable. Breakfast is 3 points of 5. It is
very far from the center. And if you would like to see the city u could not find any taxi around. So,
think twice about choosing this hotel.
- The design has flaws that allow some small (spiders to lizards) to medium (geckos) to come inside
the room often (spotted a large gecko in the middle of the night). The reason for this was that the
phone was faulty. The management did not check the rooms completely before putting them up for
rent.

5.0 Conclusion
To summarize the opinion and suggestion, I agree with the honoured grade given to the resort. The
resort place in a strategic geographical location it has a beautiful environment, pleasant climate, and
landscape.
Additionally, the design of the room resort is relaxing and has a comfortable interior decoration.
Furthermore, the management of the resort is excellent because the service crew is friendly and
helpful.
In addition, the quality of the resort is good, with reasonably priced rooms and service. Lastly, for
family or people who want to travel to relax, I will suggest the resort for sleep. It was comfortable and
the facilities amenities so that you can enjoy well. It will give a great experience and leave an
unforgettable memorable.
