Question 3: TRỌNG ÂM (STRESS) TỪ CÓ 2 ÂM TIẾT

Trọng âm đóng vai trò quan trọng trong phát âm tiếng Anh, trong đó việc nắm vững quy tắc
trọng âm là một phần rất cơ bản trong tiếng Anh, nhưng lại vô cùng quan trọng trong giao tiếp. Vì
khi các bạn nhấn sai trọng âm của từ có thể dẫn đến sai nghĩa và làm cho bạn rơi vào các tình
huống rất khó xử.
Trọng âm là gì?
Trọng âm là những âm tiết sẽ được nhấn mạnh, đọc to và rõ hơn các âm khác trong từ. Khi bạn
dò từ điển, kế bên từ vựng luôn có phần phiên âm, trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết nào thì trước âm tiết
đó sẽ có dấu phẩy ở trên đầu.
Quy tắc trọng âm vào từ có 2 âm tiết:
1. Động từ có 2 âm tiết → Đa phần trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết thứ hai
Ví dụ: invest /ɪnˈvest/, collect /kəˈlekt/, export /ɪkˈspɔːt/, ...
Ngoại lệ: Âm thứ hai là nguyên âm ngắn và kết thúc bởi 1 phụ âm (hoặc không có phụ âm) có
dạng "er, en, ish, age" ở cuối thường nhấn trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ nhất.
Ví dụ: answer /ˈɑːn.sər/, listen /ˈlis(ə)n/, finish /ˈfɪnɪʃ/, ...
2. Danh từ có 2 âm tiết → Đa phần trọng âm đánh vào âm tiết thứ nhất.
Ví dụ: father /ˈfɑː.ðər/, sister /ˈsɪstə/, money /ˈmʌn.i/,....
Ngoại lệ: Âm thứ hai có chứa nguyên âm đôi và dài sẽ nhấn trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ 2.
Ví dụ: machine /məˈʃiːn/, mistake /mɪˈsteɪk/, design /dɪˈzaɪn/,...
3. Tính từ có 2 âm tiết → Đa phần trọng âm đánh vào âm tiết thứ nhất

Ngoại lệ: Âm thứ hai có chứa nguyên âm đôi và dài sẽ nhấn trọng âm ở âm tiết thứ 2.

4. Động từ ghép → Đa phần trọng âm rơi vào động từ chính.

6. Từ kết thúc bằng các đuôi how, what, where, sẽ nhấn trọng âm ở âm đầu tiên.

7. Âm tiết cuối chứa /ow/ sẽ nhấn trọng âm ở âm thứ nhất.
Ví dụ: borrow /‘bɒr.əʊ/, follow /’fɒlou/, narrow /’nær.əʊ/,
Ngoại lệ: allow /əˈlaʊ/ là ngoại lệ vì /ə/ đứng đầu thường không được nhấn trọng âm.
8. Đa phần từ 2 âm tiết bắt đầu bằng a thì trọng âm đánh vào âm tiết thứ 2.

9. Các đại từ phản thân luôn nhấn trọng âm ở âm tiết cuối cùng.

10. Từ bắt đầu bằng every sẽ nhấn trọng âm vào chính every.

11. Từ hai âm tiết có chữ cái kết thúc là “y” và trọng âm được nhấn ở âm tiết thứ hai, chữ
“y” sẽ được phát âm thành /ai/.

phụ âm.
