AIM
To study the
working of a
simple burglar
alarm

20XX presentation title 4

INTRODUCTION
Burglar (or intrusion), alarms are systems designed to detect unauthorized entry into
a budding or area. They consist of an array of sensors, a control panel and alerting
system, and interconnections. Sensors detect intruders by many methods such as
monitoring door and window contacts, by passive infrared motion detectors,
ultrasound, vibration, electric or magnetic fields, or microwaves. Sensors may be
directly wired to a control panel that provides sensor power, or may communicate
wirelessly.

Burglar alarms (or perimeter security systems, perimeter detection systems,

Perimeter protection, intrusion detection systems and other termsfor the same thing)
are used in residential, industrial, and commercial properties for protection against
theft or property damage.

Theory

Burglar alarm
Basically, the burglar alarm is a device that monitors the designated
area or areas to detect the presence of suspicious elements. The
system takes the help of the sensor to detect such elements. Once
found, the system sends emergency signals to the user or to the monitor
station if the user so intends.

WORKING
• IR sensor consist an IR LED and photodiode, in which IR LED emits IR radiation and
photodiode detects the radiation. Photodiode conducts current in reverse direction,
whenever light falls on it, and voltage across it changes, this voltage change is sensed
by voltage comparator and generates output accordingly.
• In this IR based security alarm circuit, we have placed IR LED in front of photodiode, so
that IR light can through this beam, IR rays stops falling on photodiode and Buzzer
start beeping. Buzzer automatically stops after some time, as buzzer is connected to
555 timer in monostable mode.
This kind of Alarm can also be build Laser light, (like Laser Security Alarm Circuit) but
the benefit of using IR sensor is that IR light in invisible while Laser is visible.

Conclusion
The burglar alarm circuit is made in accordance with
the circuit diagram which is widely used in todays
security system and buzzer through which high pitch
frequently varying sound is produced. It can be used in
different ways depending upon the requirement.

20XX presentation title 13

Advantages
1.It can be used as a siren in the police vehicles, fire brigade vehicles and
ambulances as it attracts the attention of the people on the road immediately.

2.It can also be used as a security system in banks and other such places to
alert the police

3It can also be used as a part of a burglar alarm system as its frequently
varying high pitch sound grabs the attention of the nearby people as well as
alerts the burglar.

4.It can be used as a call bell.

5.It can be fitted in the vehicles of the VIPs.

Precaution
1.All the plugs and connections
should be neat, clean, and tight.
2, All the components should be
working and checked.
3. The current source should be
adjustable.

4.All the components should be

shouldered properly
