A week-long sojourn of
serenity and spirituality

he 8th International Convention of SPIC MACAY was
inaugurated on May 29, 2023 at Visvesvaraya National
Institute of Technology-VNIT in Nagpur.
While inaugurating the week-long Convention director of

Sahastrbuddhe said, “Culture is a broad concept that can
be explained through music. He appealed to the youth to
make music their lifestyle and make their lifestyle music
friendly.” He added: “There is confusion between culture and
entertainment. There are several things that entertain us but
entertainment is not culture and we cannot define culture as
entertainment.”
He also appreciated the efforts of SPIC MACAY in conducting
events every year to promote Indian culture and music at the
international level.

The week-long Intercon was an enriching opportunity for
art lovers and also quite fascinating for the young delegates
from faraway places, who were perhaps witnessing and
experiencing these vibrant art forms, and rare instruments
like Rudraveena or Dilruba and a Koodiyattam performance
for the first time in their life.

SPIC MACAY Uttarakhand chapter has been earnestly
striving to bring the glimpses of the rich art forms of the
country to the students and youth in this ‘Devbhoomi’. The

The Purulia circuit was held from July 17 to August 4. It


covered the districts Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Kottayam,
Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad. Institutions include a few
Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas.
During August (7 – 12) the state chapter organised a
classical circuit of Carnatic Flute by Vidushi Sikkil Mala
Chandrashekhar, accompanied by Sh Idappalli Ajith Kumar
(Violin) and KMS Mani (Mridangam). The circuit covered
several major institutions such as Amrita Campus (Kochi),
Asian School of Architecture, Sree Sankara University of
Sanskrit, Chinmaya College,IIT Palakkad, NIT Calicut, Amrita
Campus Ettimadai. The highlight of this circuit was the
maximum number of Higher Education Institutions and
covering adult students of colleges most.
