Objective
To advise customers of the obsoletion of several Shot Pin Assembly designs and the replacements
currently available for upgrade on the IDS-350PE, TDS-8SA, TDS-10RR, TDS-10SA, TDS-10SH, TDS-11HP,
TDS-11SA, and TDS-1000 Top Drives. Revision 02 of this product bulletin corrects the replacement part
number for M614000597-BSC in Table 1.

Issue
The Shot Pin Assembly (multiple part numbers) consists of a hydraulic drive motor, shot pin housing, and
manifold assembly. The function of the assembly is to provide angular positioning of the Rotating Link
Adapter (RLA), and to lock in place. Over the years, NOV has received field reports involving leaking
hydraulic fluid from the shot pin assembly as a result of excessive wear.

Solution
NOV has developed multiple design improvements to increase the life of the Shot Pin Assembly. Design
improvements include a longer shotpin, a more durable piston seal, a bronze overlay on the piston, an
improved sleeve, and an improved rod wiper. Existing designs will be obsoleted and future orders will be
redirected to the improved design (see Table 1). This new shot pin design has been validated by life cycle
testing to simulate five years of operation.

All top drives produced after July 2016 are configured with the improved design.

NOV will still provide spares support for the obsoleted Shot Pin Assemblies. However, any affected Top
Drives coming into a NOV Service Center for repair or overhaul will be offered the improved design.
