3. YUNDILA MWELEKA Company Limited has two bottling plants one located at MATEKA
and the other at LIZABONI. Each plant produces three drinks; NGONI, JEMA and
MABOBO. The number of bottles produced per day are as shown below.

The operating cost per day for plants of MATEKA and LIZABONI are Tsh 50,000/= and
Tshs 20,000/= respectively.
(a) For how many days should each plant be run so as to minimize the production cost
which will still meeting the market demand?
(b) Find the overall minimum cost.

4. (a) A zoologist weigh 200 eggs and records the weight in the following frequency
distribution.

(i) Find the arithmetic mean and


(ii) The standard deviation using coding method

(b) Find the upper quartile, lower quartile and inter – quartile range of the numbers below.

5. (a) Given that A =  x : x  R , x  1 and B =  x : x  R , −3  x  4 .

(b) Simplify giving reasons the statements:

(c) A poultry farm at Majengo village produce three type of chicks and at the annual report
revealed that out of 126 of its regular customers, 65 bought Broilers, 80 bought Layers
and 75 bought Cocks. 10 bought Broilers only, 15 bought Layers only and 6 bought Cocks
only, and 6 of the customers didn’t show up.
(i) How many customers bought all products?

(ii) How many customers bought at most two of the three products?

(iii) How many customers bought exactly one of the farmers product?

6. (a) The function 𝑓(𝑥) and 𝑔(𝑥) are defined as f ( x ) = x − 1 and g ( x ) = 3 x + 5 . Show that
(i) Function composition is not associative.

7. (a) Use the secant method to find the root near at the equation 𝑥 2 − 2𝑥 − 5 = 0, correct to 3
decimal places starting with X 0 = 1.9 and X 1 = 2.0
(b) Verify that the equation 𝑥 2 − 2𝑥 − 1 = 0 has root lying between 2 nad 3 then obtain the
approximate root in two (2) iterations using Newton Raphson method.

8. (a) (i) Find the equation of the bisectors of the two intrsecting lines whose equations are

2𝑥 + 4𝑦 − 3 = 0
